Dr. Joseph Guglielmo

Dr. Joseph B. Guglielmo, Pharm.D.

B. Joseph Guglielmo, Pharm.D. is Professor and Chair in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy, School of Pharmacy at the University of California San Francisco. He also serves as Associate Director of Pharmaceutical Services at the UCSF Medical Center. Prior to his chairship, he was Vice Chair of Scholarship for the Department. His primary research interests involve the safe, effective, and appropriate use of antimicrobials, as well as the pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacokinetics of anti-infective agents. Dr. Guglielmo developed the Medical Center Antimicrobial Management Program in the 1980s and has mentored infectious diseases specialty residents and fellows continuously since 1986. He serves as long-term editor of Applied Therapeutics: The Clinical Use of Drugs and the Handbook for Applied Therapeutics.

Dr. Roger Santos

Roger Santos is a 2003 graduate of UOP Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy, where he completed the Pre-Pharmacy Advantage Program straight out of high school. He has taken the unconventional route towards pharmacy. Rather than completing a residency immediately after graduating, he chose to work in the retail setting as a manager for Longs Pharmacy for two years before doing a residency at St. Joseph’s Medical Center. While it was very challenging to go back and retouch on disease states and inpatient medications, he found that he had an advantage because he could apply his everyday work skills. He is now working as an ambulatory care pharmacist in Oakland and Richmond for Kaiser Permanente, where he provides anticoagulation and diabetes services.

Dr. Michael Winter

Dr. Michael Winter, Pharm.D

Dr. Michael Winter is a Professor of Clinical Pharmacy and serves as Vice Chair for Academic Affairs in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy, School of Pharmacy at the University of California at San Francisco. Dr. Winter joined the faculty in 1970 and has been Vice Chair in the Department since 1984. As Vice Chair he is responsible for the Department's didactic and clinical teaching programs in the San Francisco Bay Area and serves as a resource for the School's satellite clinical programs. He provides clinical consultation to health care providers for patients with complex pharmacokinetic problems. In addition he lectures, guides conferences and leads workshops at the local, state, national and international level on the use of pharmacokinetics in the patient care setting. He is the author of Basic Clinical Pharmacokinetics as well as other articles and book chapters on clinical pharmacokinetics. He is a Fellow in the California and American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists and is active in professional associations at the local, state and national level.

Dr. Peter Koshland

With an undergraduate degree in chemistry from Georgetown University and Doctorate in Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from the University of California, San Francisco School of Pharmacy (the number one pharmacy school according to U.S. News & World Report), Dr. Koshland has a commitment to the symbiosis of science, wellness, and customer care that is unmatched in the industry. He joined Elephant Pharm in 2005 as a pharmacist at the Berkeley location, and before being named to his current position, worked as Pharmacist-in-Charge at the San Rafael store. There, Dr. Koshland was instrumental in establishing Elephant Pharm’s custom prescription compounding service, which has grown 500% under his direction. He has been responsible for raising general awareness of compounding to both patients and doctors alike. As Director of Pharmacy and Compounding, Dr. Koshland oversees the operation and compliance of all Elephant Pharm pharmacies, including the direction of all pharmacist recruiting and training. He also is responsible for ensuring that all of our pharmacies embody Elephant’s commitment to the highest level of patient care and community education and that all of our licensed pharmacists are well-versed in alternative and complementary medicines.

Dr. Herb Leung

Dr. Herb Leung, Pharm.D

Mental Health Clinical Pharmacist

Dr. Herb Leung is a graduate of UCSF School of Pharmacy with twenty eight years of experience working as a clinical pharmacist in Community Behavioral Health Services with the Department of Public Health in San Francisco. Mental health clinical pharmacists are instrumental in patient advocacy, as well as providing education and support to mentally ill patients in maintaining good compliance of their treatment and adherence to their daily psychotropic medications. Mental health pharmacists serve their patients in collaboration with multidisciplinary clinical teams of psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, psychiatric technicians, psychologists, social workers, and case managers.

Dr. Moses Chow

Dr. Moses Chow, Pharm.D

Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Director, CADRE
College of Pharmacy, Western University of Health Sciences

Dr. Chow has over 30 years of experience in transitional research and clinical studies in the areas of cardiovascular pharmacotherapy and application of pharmacokinetics/pharmacogenomics. His recent research work has been devoted to the development of conventional drugs and herbal medicines (Chinese medicines). He has also established a strong net work with Asian countries, especially China where he served as Director of the Pharmacy School in Hong Kong for 8 years. As Director of the newly established Center for Drug Research and Evaluation at Western U, the focus of his research will be the development of niche pharmaceutical products via formulation optimization as well as new therapeutic approaches. This will be accomplished via collaborative efforts among members in formulation science, bio-analysis/ pharmacokinetics, pharmacology/pharmacogenetics and clinical/outcome studies.

Dr. Diana Thamrin

Dr. Diana Thamrin is a graduate of University of the Pacific Thomas J Long School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and an ambulatory care pharmacist at Highland Hospital in Oakland, California. She has been honored with the Health Care Award by the Alameda County Tobacco Control Coalition in recognition of her work with Alameda County Medical Center smoking cessation program.

Dr. Kethen So

Dr. Kethen W. So, PharmD, BCPS

Dr. Kethen W. So is a Health Sciences Assistant Clinical Professor of Pharmacy in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy at the University of California at San Francisco and a Senior Pharmacist Supervisor of the Department of Pharmaceutical Services at the UCSF Medical Center. In his current role, he is responsible for the inpatient pharmaceutical services with a focus on automation. Dr. So completed his pharmacy practice and pharmacy administration specialty residencies at the University of California at San Francisco in 1995-1997 and then joined the UCSF Medical Center as a clinical pharmacist on the Adult Hematology/Oncology Service. He worked with several other pharmacists in developing and implementing pharmacist practice guidelines focusing on symptom management in patients receiving high chemotherapy for induction, consolidation and transplantation for hematological malignancies. In 2000, he left the UCSF Medical Center and became the Pharmacy Manager at Children's Hospital Oakland where he coordinated and implemented the inpatient pharmacy service. He also served as the pediatric bone marrow transplant pharmacy consultant. In 2001, he was recruited back to the UCSF Medical Center to accept a new position as a senior pharmacist supervisor. He is currently responsible for the technician workload assignment and oversees various pharmacy automation projects to provide optimal patient medication delivery systems.

Dr. Martha Stassinos

Dr. Martha Stassinos, Pharm.D

Veterans Administration Ambulatory Care Clinic in Oakland

Dr. Martha Stassinos is a graduate of UCSF School of Pharmacy and has extensive experience in ambulatory care pharmacy, being a prescibing pharmacist at Veterans Administration ambulatory care clinic in Oakand. Dr. Stassinos works with patients with issues in the areas of diabetes management, hyperlipidemia, anticoagulation, hypertension, asthma, allergy, and women's health. She is also a member of adjunct faculty at Touro University and UOP and a pharmacy school textbook author.

Dr. Dale Johnson

Dr. Dale E. Johnson, Pharm.D, Ph.D.

Dale Johnson has over 25 years of experience in biotechnology and pharmaceutical research and development activities where he has led and managed groups ranging from small units in start-up companies to multi-national units in large corporations. He has participated in the research and development of over 100 compounds of which 15 have become marketed health care medicinal productsin the United States and Europe. He is considered an expert in transitioning research projects into drug candidates. Most recently, he served as Vice President, Drug Assessment & Development at Chiron Corporation and previously as Vice President, Preclinical Development. He received his Ph.D. degree in Toxicology from the University of Michigan where he was awarded an AFPE Fellowship. Prior to his Ph.D. work, he received B.S. and Pharm.D. degrees from the University of Michigan and completed a clinical pharmacy residency at the Medical Center where he was awarded the National Resident of the Year Award. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology and serves as a member of industry as well as government advisory boards. He is co-editor of the journal The Chemistry of Metabolic and Toxicological Processes, Current Opinion in Drug Discovery & Development and is an Adjunct Professor in Molecular Toxicology at University of California, Berkeley.

Dr. Ronny Chiu

Ronny Chiu started his career with Walgreens 23 years ago as a cashier while he was pursuing his undergraduate degree in Psychology and Marketing. He then graduated from UCSF School of Pharmacy in 1997 with a PharmD degree. Upon graduation, Dr. Chiu worked as a pharmacy manager in various locations throughout San Francisco and was promoted to District Pharmacy Supervisor in 2001 for the Walgreens East Bay district. He is currently Walgreens representative to the CA BOP. Dr. Chiu participated on the advisory committee at Touro University in 2004-2005, and is now on Touro’s oversight committee and Walgreens’ key contact at the school.

Dr. Jennifer Chen

Jennifer Chen is a UC Berkeley alumna, having received a Bachelor degree in Molecular and Cell Biology with an emphasis in Biochemistry before attending UCSF School of Pharmacy. She currently works in Veterans Administration Medical Center in San Francisco after having completed her residency in the same hospital. Dr. Chen is involved in helping patients manage their blood pressure, diabetes, and cholesterol levels. She also teaches and works closely with pharmacy students and residents.

Lina Meng

3rd year Pharmacy Student, UCSD

Lina Meng is currently a third year student at the UCSD School of Pharmacy. She worked as a SLC O-Chem tutor and as a Longs Drugs Pharmacy Clerk during her UC Berkeley undergraduate years. As a pharmacy student at UCSD, Lina has served as Operation Immunization Chair and Community Affairs Officer in APhA. As a NIH Clinical Research Training Grant recipient, Lina conducted research in pediatric pharmacology. Currently, she is the manager of the UCSD Student-Run Free Clinic. She works at both Scripps Memorial Hospital and Med-RX Health-mart, and is a student delegate at CPhA Outlook 2008.

John Poon

John Poon is currently a third year student at the Touro University School of Pharmacy, planning to graduate in 2009. John's pharmacy experience includes working as an intern pharmacist at Kaiser Permanente and Longs Drugs, where he is currently on rotation. He is also a member of ASHP/CSHP and APhA/CPhA.

Kal Dorji

Kal Dorji - USC, 2nd year

Kal Dorji is a second year student at University of Southern California School of Pharmacy. His previous pharmacy experience includes working in USC Main Campus Library. Kal is currently the Vice President of USC’s NCPA Student Chapter, Treasurer of Phi Delta Chi Professional Pharmacy Fraternity—Omicron Chapter, and Vice President of USC Skull and Mortar Honorary Service Fraternity. He is also a member of the student chapter of CPHA/APHA, and was a student delegate at CPHA Outlook 2008.

Nicole Cho

Nicole Cho - USC, 1st year

Nicole Cho is a first year student at University of Southern California School of Pharmacy and a Berkeley alumna. She has previously volunteered at UCB TANG Health Center and is currently a member of AMCP, or Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy, and APSA, or American Pharmacy Student Alliance, which is composed of CPhA, APhA-ASP, CSHP, ASHP, and IPSF.

Vivian Lian

Vivian Lian - UCSF, 1st year

Vivian Lian is a first year student at UCSF School of Pharmacy and a Berkeley alumna. Her previous pharmacy-related experiences include working at Walgreens as an Intern Pharmacist and a technician, and being a member of Academy of Managed Care, Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity, as well as a Class Representative and Pharmacists Society of SF Representative in APhA.

Thomas Hong

Thomas Hong - UCSF, 2nd year

Thomas Hong is a second year pharmacy student at UCSF. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, in May 2006 with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Molecular and Cell Biology. During his undergraduate years, he was an active member of Alpha Phi Omega, a co-educational community service fraternity, volunteered at Elephant Pharmacy, and also did research with a graduate student in the Keasling Lab at Berkeley. At UCSF, he was one of the first year representatives for the student organization American Pharmacist Association- Academy of Student Pharmacists, and he was also interning as a student pharmacist at Walgreens. His best piece of advice to pre-pharmacy students is to find out more about pharmacy to see if the profession is right for you.

Sandeep Bains

Sandeep Bains - UOP, 1st year

Sandeep Bains is a first year student at University of the Pacific Thomas J Long School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. His pharmacy-related experiences include working as an Intern Pharmacist at Longs Drugs and being a member of Phi Delta Pharmacy Fraternity, APhA-ASP, CPhA, PSSHP (CHSP-ASHP), and the Rotations Committee.

Cam-Thi Le

Cam-Thi Le - Touro, 3rd year

Cam-Thi Le is a third year student at Touro University College of Pharmacy. She is a member of APhA and CHSP, or California of Health-System Pharmacists. Cam-Thi extensively participates in community service. Some of the projects she has been previously involved in include Vial of Life, a project involving administration of FluMist, and Berkeley General Suitcase Clinic for the homeless and disavantaged.

Roger Wright

Roger Wright - Touro, 1st year

Roger Wright is a first year student at Touro University College of Pharmacy. He has previously worked as a clinical research coordinator on projects involving oncology pharmacists as well as the manager of the investigational pharmacy at the UC Davis Cancer Center. He has recently been a Pharmacy Intern in an independent compounding pharmacy. Roger is currently involved in the Student Govenment Association of the Touro University College of Pharmacy.

Julia Zhu is a current UC Berkeley student. She is now a senior and will graduate in May with a degree in Molecular and Cell Biology. Julia has been accepted into the UCSF School of Pharmacy Class of 2012.
