Purpose

The fall of communism, in theory and practice, has not established a new classical liberal order, in theory or practice. Instead, modern liberalism holds sway. The welfare state shows no sign of drastic shrinking. Not only has it not impoverished or enslaved us, but many people's lives have, in many important respects, improved under the welfare state. Nor does the welfare state appear to be heading for a crisis or taking us down the road to serfdom. Thus the main purpose of this Apology is to deal with the arguments and evidence presented by modern liberalism against classical liberalism. But, since no idea ever dies for ever, I'd like to deal with radical critiques of capitalism as well.
