The X Windows environment

X11R5. The X Windows environment is a graphical user windows manager. It
is a freely available graphic display standard. This means that anyone
with Internet access can get a copy and use it. The fact that it is a
freely available has made it fairly standard among machines on the
Internet. Thus, you can easily and 'simply' display graphics generated on
one machine on a possible quite different one, very far away.
