CON REPORT: FANIMECON 2007
BY ALBERT WANG
I'm afraid, gentle reader, that I lied to you, willfully and inexcusably. For you see, my so-called "Con Report" isn't much of a report at all. While I had planned on arriving just before noon, purchasing one day's registration and enjoying a full day of fun at the California Bay Area's largest anime convention, alas, my carefully laid-out plans were waylaid by:
- Me taking the wrong train, incurring an additional hour of travel time
- and the line to register taking over three hours.
So I profoundly apologize for my shameful insincerity with you, dear reader. But I digress, here are the highlights of my trip to Fanimecon:
- On the train to San Jose, happened to overhear the following conversation taking place behind me:
Guy: "Where're you going?"
Girl: "Work."
Guy: "You work in San Francisco?"
Girl: "Yep."
Guy: "What's your name?"
Girl: "Linda."*
Guy: "Nice to meet you."
Girl: "Nice to meet you too!"
Guy: "Can I get your number?"
Girl: "No, sorry."
Guy: "Why not?"
Girl: "I have a boyfriend."
Guy: "Oh..."
Guy: "Can I have your number?"
Girl: "Sorry."
* name changed out of respect for privacy
- Met Greg Dean of Real Life
- Met Sozoku of HeavenSystem.Com
- Met Lisu of... somewhere, and bought a Touhou keychain
- Met Iori E of, uhh... a whole lot of places. You know, the cosplay and Touhou Flash guy.
- Just missed the maid cafe (and didn't think to use my old Daily Californian press credential to gain access. Just kidding, that would be fraud. Or something.)
- Gave out a sketch (of a pirate) to a couple kids
- Saw Man-Vita (D:)
