2/02/08: New section.
10/31/07: Little China in Big Trouble is out. Also, expect an article on my Halloween soon. Ah, here it is.
8/16/07: Another big redesign. You may be thinking that the Gallery has suddenly shrunk considerably in size. To that sentiment, I ask what the hell you're talking about. For no particular reason, though, I think you might appreciate the work of this guy, who is most certainly not me operating under a pseudonym.
As always, notify me if you find anything else amiss about the new design.
7/12/07: In the Art Section, I've added a sketch section.
7/02/07: I'm back from my two-week trip to China, and I have sketches. Also, this date has a nice symmetry to it.
5/27/07: I'm back from Fanimecon 2007, and I have a report and sketches.
3/15/07: There's a new section up. Not much content there, but... well, there won't be much content there for a good while.
1/20/07: The site now has a pretty new header image to greet visitors. Also, I'm getting used to working with a tablet, so don't expect new art for a little bit.
1/04/07: Over in the Art Section, Mobile Zayaku Udongam is done (about time.)
9/26/06: A little advice to those of you who have yet to enter college: never get sick or injured, ever. And if you do, don't see a doctor. You'll get slapped with a fee twice the rational amount (e.g. $200 for a 15-minute visit where you were advised to take an OTC medication,) which your school's student insurance policy will kind of dance around for a few months while your medical provider gets increasingly impatient for its exorbitant payment. In the end, collections will come and you'll have to pay the full medical fee as well as any surcharges your school's insurance wants to tack on. DIY surgery is suddenly looking pretty good now, isn't it?
8/26/06: Two new items in the Art section; they're a bit late because I spent the past week out of town and couldn't upload them here.
7/03/06: Another redesign, although less apparent this time. Basically, where every page used to contain the code for the menu, I now have it in one document that all pages refer to. This should make updating the menu much easier, as I'll no longer have to go through 195 HTM files whenever I want to do so. As usual, any problems should be reported to me immediately.
5/07/06: Apparently, my alma mater is having serious drug problems. Make of that what you will. My thoughts? At least the police have something to do now besides arresting kids for selling lemonade without a business permit. Oh, by the way, here's a video of the TV coverage.
5/03/06: Here's a full exposition of my fight for the BEARcade, from start to finish. It's kind of a long read, and kind of emo, so I apologize in advance.
4/25/06: ASUC elections open today, and I've responded appropriately. By the way, if you missed it before, new logo. (Please help me get the stuff in the sidebar centered.)
4/06/06: The site has, as you can see, undergone a major redesign. Please notify me of any problems posthaste. (Disliking the new design does not count as a problem in this sense.)
3/18/06: Webcounter installed. Those of you whose every activity is being tracked by some sinister corrupt power with mind-control satellites, take note.
3/14/06: I recently received a correspondence from Trevor Morris of Gelateria Naia. In the interest of full disclosure and diversity of ideas, the letter is presented in its entirety at the above link.
2/06/06: John Rolle at ASUC Auxiliary confirmed for me that the BEARcade's machines are gone. There you have it. Within the space of three months, what was once a vibrant and special, if small, community, an entity 600 people tried to save, has been wholly effaced, in favor of another branch of an ice cream chain, one that owns a location a block away from campus. The UC Berkeley our mothers and fathers went to, that vanguard of diversity, that bulwark against unchecked commercialism and profiteering, is dead. It has gone the way of the campus bowling alley, the campus arcade, and a value system that transcends the dollar. Farewell, old friend.
1/26/06: Crapitalism would like to wish ASUC Auxiliary Director Tom Cordi a happy retirement from service at UC and wish him luck in the future. We would also, however, like to note that during his ASUC career, Cordi contributed to the rampant commercialization of the UC Berkeley campus and the cheapening of the Berkeley community's principles, culminating in his endorsement of the replacement of its student-run arcade, the only arcade in the city, with what will be the fifth ice cream shop in the immediate vicinity of the UC Berkeley campus.
Oh god, I'm sounding like David Horowitz now. I need to go take a shower.
11/30/05: Tonight I addressed the Associated Students of the University of California regarding the late BEARcade. Although I had to cut my speech down to three minutes, the unabridged version can be found here.
11/18/05: Nearly ten years of lights, noises and fun ended tonight as Berkeley's last arcade shut down for good amidst shouts, tears and wistful reminiscing. No longer will students duck beneath Sproul Plaza to play the guitar, shoot pool or race cars. No more will wide-eyed incoming freshmen discover, as I did, games they had only heard of and fill with joy. To the valiant staff of the BEARcade, I can never find the words to appropriately thank you. Your efforts brought me and many others happiness, if only for a too-short while. You have my eternal gratitude. To President Manuel Buenrostro and the rest of the Associated Students of the University of California, this action will be neither forgiven nor forgotten. Mr. Wabel and I will continue to fight to make sure that diversity does not become a meaningless word on the Berkeley campus, and that no other campus institutions--or students--have to suffer what we have tonight.
11/15/05: Grant Wabel came too late. The ASUC is moving ahead with replacing Berkeley's only arcade with an eighth ice cream parlor.
10/31/05: I'm proud to present to you a new article by a very good acquaintance of mine. It's a good read.
6/20/05: New article, plus I added a crapload (emphasis on "crap") of art.
5/02/05: Toned down the background color. Hopefully this makes my site less annoying to read. Which isn't saying much.
4/10/05: I'm 19 today. Accordingly, I've done a new drawing.
12/28/04: Hey, guess what? I updated the Links section. Now with 30% fewer dead links!
11/14/04: Anime Destiny 2004! Transit: Free--it's housed in the building where I attend classes every Tuesday and Thursday. Registration: $10. Meals: Prepaid, from the dining complex. Various trinkets and souvenirs: $20. Game of GGXX at the BEARCade: $.25. Wasting a day I was going to use to catch up on reading: Oh shit.
10/30/04: Sadly, Revolutionline.com is gone for good. We're now hosted on Berkeley's OCF.
10/16/04: Berkeley made UCLA its bitch in today's Homecoming game. 45-28.
9/25/04: New host. We're now at revolutionline.com.
9/14/04: Art Section overhauled. Now it's more organized and should take less time to load.
8/31/04: Today I spent 4.5 hours in class and another 1.5 hours waiting in lines at three different stores. I had to buy a textbook that Ned's Books forgot to include in my order a week earlier, and three readers. For those of you not in the know, a reader is a nifty little packet of photocopied articles and stuff. It costs as much as a textbook, and you don't even know it exists till your first lecture. Plus it's required reading, so the whole reader thing essentially amounts to a hidden cost that you have to sit in 200-strong lines to pay. Sometimes I think the faculty and the copy stores have a secret conspiracy to drive students insane.
8/24/04: I'm settled into Berkeley now. Cool, huh?
8/20/04: Man, it's been a while since I updated. Anyway, UC Berkeley's Move-In Day is tomorrow. See you after I get everything set up.
6/11/04: Graduation! We are officially certified and no longer the property of Los Altos High School. Grad night was kind of dull, but it was the last time I'd get to see most of my comrades, so it's all good.
6/06/04: My hard drive bought the farm. Updates may be delayed temporarily.
6/04/04: SBC Yahoo! DSL may be the strongest argument for regulation of Internet service. At least the federal government has only shut down twice in the past century. And the government fucks everyone over equally, not just people who own routers.
6/01/04: Goodbye Talon! Tonight three years of hard work, sacrifice, frozen berry munching, dashing around campus, political discussions over dinner, emergency trips to Wal-mart, meticulous editing, Indesign jockeying, and chilling with some of the coolest people I have ever had the privilege to meet culminated in one crazy night. 2004's senior issue is headed for the presses, and we the class of 2004 are headed for college. Amazing how time flies.
