Conclusion

This website examined trends in the special effects of the movie industry.  More specifically, it examined the role that humans may play in the future.  It is clear that special effects have greatly increased over the years.  It has always been the job of the movie director to create a convincing story, and to engage the audience; this has been in the way of finding good actors, finding or creating a fitting location, including entertaining effects such as explosions or battle scenes, amongst other things.  These tactics have improved both financially and realistically, and continue to do so.

By examining the evolution of special effects, and more recent movies which have begun implementing them in full force, we have observed the largely increasing role of special effects in all films.  Today, movies captivate the audience in a manner that convinces the viewer that he is actually there observing the actions, rather than watching a staged sequence.

It has also been observed in this website that video games have played a prominent role in the improvement of computer graphics, today's most crucial aspect of special effects.  As techniques and the appearance of such computer graphics improve, movies are relying more on creating the reality that they prefer from scratch, rather than finding it.

Thus, it is necessary to discuss the role that humans may play in the future of the movie making industry.  With such technology that is constantly being made more convincing, it is highly likely that additional purely computer generated movies will be made, and that audiences will no longer mind watching real or created actors.  It may then become more cost efficient, easier to edit changes, or more convenient to capture the perfect moment that a director has in his mind without human actors.

In conclusion, because technology has already affected every part of our lives, and replaced many human jobs by being more efficient (the computer is far better than humans at accomplishing many things!), it is not unreasonable to think that humans may be eliminated with computer graphic images.  The role of humans in movie production may one day be only behind the scenes.  Such an absolute decision would be highly controversial today, but many technologies that we are adapted today would receive controversy had they been released a century ago.  And so, it is only with time that we can tell what role we will actually play.

Project Description

I chose to do this project because I find many of the special effects in movies to be fascinating and extremely convincing.  I also enjoy video games, and am impressed by the computer graphics they present in their characters and stories.  Because of my interest in both these areas, I have found the fact that these two industries are converging to be an area that has much information to offer.

By doing this project I learned many things; first, I learned all the information expressed in this website.  Also, I learned a great deal about creating a website from scratch, and making it useful to viewers.  By creating different tabs, I was able to organize my thoughts better by putting myself in the position of a visitor and placing together ideas and thoughts that fit logically.  I also learned how to create an interactive environment that can be used to educate visitors on the topic of my choice.

Some of the obstacles I encountered through this project was finding sources that related to my topic of interest.  Because this is a new area, I was unable to find any articles that directly related to my study.  I was however able to find information on special effects, and their relation to video games, and therefore draw my own conclusions about what may or may not happen to the role of actors.  Another obstacle that I encountered was in fixing some of the glitches in my website; sometimes spacing would not be exactly the same in all areas of the site, and it would be difficult to find the exact problem.

Overall, this project has been an extremely valuable and enriching experience.  Not only have I learned a variety of things on my topic as I have done in the past with other research projects, I have learned how to present it in the form of a professional-looking website that can be used by others so that I am able to share my newfound knowlege.
