Points
What is this?
The UC Berkeley Chapter of AMSA wants to reward members who actively participate throughout the year. In order to earn points, members can join action committees, attend general meetings, and participate in other AMSA events such as community service events. At the end of the year, AMSA recognizes members’ hard work at the End-of-the-Year, awarding certificates and prizes to active members.
How do you earn points?
1. General Meetings: Each general meeting that you attend earns you 2 points. There will always be a sign-in sheet at the beginning of the meeting that is used to record attendance at these events.
2. Other AMSA Events: Other events that earn points include community service events, fundraising events, Kaplan events, and conferences. Since not all events require the same amount of time, points will be assigned on an hourly basis. If you spend 3 hours at a community service event, you will earn 3 points. For day-long events, the points are capped at 5 points maximum per event.
3. Join the Board or an Action Committee! Officers will receive 10 points each. Additionally, for each committee that you join, you will receive 5 points for participation at the end of each semester.

The Membership Ladder
Based on the number of points you earn during the year, you will be placed in one of the following categories:
- Surgeon General: Member with the highest number of points.
- Chief-of-Surgery: Members with 80% of the number of points earned by the Surgeon General.
- Physician: Members with 60 % of the number of points earned by the Surgeon General.
- Resident: Members with 40% of the number of points earned by the Surgeon General.
- Medical Student: Members with 20% of the number of points earned by the Surgeon General.
- Premedical Student: Members with 10% of the number of points earned by the Surgeon General.
Prizes will be given to each group of members. Last year’s prizes included: Shadowing our physician mentor at the hospital, UCSF scrubs, AMSA t-shirts, and more!
