On the morning of the conference-related day trip to Arthur's Pass, I waited in the Convention Centre lobby with all the other scientists for the tour buses to come, while James was upstairs practicing the talk he was to give the next morning.
Of particular note in these photos is the mural behind James. I found out later it is a permanent public exhibit, titled Passport to the New Millennium, painted by local artist Philip Trusttum in 1999 to celebrate the turn of the century.
