Trips 'n' Tramps. That's all I should have to say. But I'll elaborate.
If you don't want to do things by yourself in Milford Sound, this family-run company has guides for every type of adventure you could possibly want or get out of the entire Fiordland area. They take you to the fiords, up the mountains, in the bush, flora and fauna sightseeing. They offer long hikes, short hikes, multiple hikes, no hikes, bag lunches, snacks, coffee, and tea. They impart knowledge and details on everything as only experienced locals can. They are thoughtful, accommodating, and have a great sense of humor. They're like the perfect partner, tramping or otherwise!
They're mom-and-pop enough to email you back personally, but savvy enough to conduct their business professionally. And they won't rip you off.
If you can't tell already, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience with Trips 'n' Tramps, and recommend them even for those who like to explore on their own, because -- no offense but -- unless you're a veteran of the area or a local yourself, no matter how good you are, the guides for Trips 'n' Tramps are BETTER.
And yet, if you suck at hiking, they will hold your hand.
