Day 6 - November 14th, 2005 - Tin Fish, Hotel Solamar, ACR President's Reception

Outside of Tin Fish...I saw kids run around and play in this fountain all week.

Tin Fish is this seafood place close to the Convention Center...I went here twice during the week. Misnomer...the fish were actually good and not made out of tin.

Maxine's room at the Hotel Salomar...very neat hotel...she had 2 Wega TVs...an actual DVD player...

Pineapple Lamp...neat! I love teak furniture now...although I hear that teak harvesting is a major reason for Amazon deforestation. :-(

Solamar's color scheme reminded me very much of my apartment...they even had suede on the elevator walls! I confess...I felt it up. lol

Choose your bird wisely or suffer the consequences! I dunno...this was in a hallway and it just seemed like it was out of a movie or something...

This is such a neat idea!!! Fake candle lights! Gives it that old world charm without the nasty wax all over the place.

Ultra slick lobby...love the decor all though it only looks good in darker mood lighting which is too dark for a home.

Jbar's (the Solamar's 4th floor lounge/pool/bar) sign...hehehe look at how the head's all flattened out...I guess potentially people could get drunk at the bar and then think they would want to dive headfirst into the pool. Potentially. I didn't take pics of the food/drinks we had at the Jbar...but the calamari was good...the clams were good...love the wasabi sauce. I had a Mango Pina Colada that set me up for the rest of the night. :-P After 3 Pina Colada's this week (of various kinds)...I'm officially in my Pina Colada phase.

My invitation to the President's reception

On the flip side...
The Evans' Garage is a private family-owned museum, built in 1983, to house the late Mr. William Evans Sr.'s (a well known San Diego hotelier) collection of classic and antique cars, furniture and other period pieces.

The Garage is a time capsule filled with memories of the past. Inside are beautiful antique stained glass, classic cars and fire engines, clothing and tapestries dating back 100 years and, suspended overhead, a 1917 airplane from the British Royal Flying Corps. The collection is priceless. Current items on display include an 1894 Benz, a 1903 Oldsmobile, a 1905 Pope Toledo, a 1913 Pope Hartford Fire Engine, a restored 1905 Columbia Electric, a 1912 Pope Touring Car and several vintage race cars from the Indy 500.

I could have gone to a wine bar with some of the other co-workers but I thought that this party was too good to pass up if last year's was any indication. That mushroom bar in San Antonio was amazing!!! Although this year didn't have it, we still had a great time!

Evans Garage entrance...arrived here via bus from the convention center.

Meg, Maxine, Vina, and Matt

My future ride!!! hehehe...Is this the Benz or the Ford, I can't tell...I wanna pimp it out....get Xzibit on it!!! I want LCD screens and gull-wing doors!!! Plus under-chassis lights!

TONS of seafood at the party...sushi, shrimp, and crab claws.

Race car

Prepping the duck/lamb...different stations had different sauces/reductions...we settled on the truffle one in the end.

This is a Deusenberg...just like the one in Raiders of the Lost Ark

Classic cars were represented as well...

Lamb/Duck with Spinach and Mushrooms....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!

More seafood....so many stations...didn't get pics of the dessert and veggie station though...not enough time for everything...

Chocolate covered strawberries!!! I stopped the server 2 times to get the right shot! She seemed amused.

Crab claws pre-cracked...so good since you could eat fresh crab without worrying about cracking them!!! What a concept! Truthfully, I suspect that it was done for the convenience of all the very old people attending. hehe

James Bond Aston Martin DB5....I almost fell over when I saw this car....super dream car would probably be an Aston Martin...I'd love to be tooling around in one of these pretending to be James Bond...hehehe

Totally fell in love with the lines of this car

Boat car

Propellers

Fire red Thunderbird

I'm a fan...

Maxine likes what she sees too

View from the second floor

Getting ready to leave, we were one of the last and had to be escorted out...AGAIN!!! Two years in a row!

Maxine got one of the table flower arrangements from Ron...pretty!
