Day 2 - May 29th, 2005 - Morning Smoothie, Disneyland Day 1

Hmm...the return of my mom's Ing Yang Tang "Healthy Soup". I used to have this kind of stuff when I was growing up. Had tons of stuff mixed together. Apparently Emily's mom does the same thing so Emily and Angela were already used to this idea. In fact, they seemed to like it. I hate it when its all creamy. Much rather have it be liquidy. Anyways, this has stuff like papaya, sesame stuff, apple juice, alfalfa...the smell is incredible.

PSP action while waiting in the ticket line. Tried out Ridge Racer (Cathy's) which was pretty neat. We did the 2-day Park Hopper while my sis needed to get a Blockout day pass (since it was a blockout day even for Deluxe Passport holders). Did you know that with 10,000 parking spaces, the Disneyland Parking Lot is the biggest in North America? Crazy...and that the sun sculpture at the front of California Adventure is facing away from the sun so Imagineers use mirrors to reflect light onto it? That in the past, people paid tickets to ride each ride, kind of like how a carnival operates? People would buy books of tickets and the best tickets (the E ones) would allow you access to the cooelst rides. To this day, the term "E Ticket" in SoCal means something cool. So many interesting things about Disneyland...

First time on Twilight Zone Tower of Terror (in California Adventure). I liked it a lot since it had quite a few freefall drops (my bag would fly upwards). Still it would have been much neater if the whole thing was open air. We FastPassed this one so here's just a pic from the outside.

The "It's Tough To Be A Bug " show which stars "A Bug's Life" characters. If you have to see 1 kid's show, this would be it.

Notice all the kids milling around...esp the ones in front. Hehehehe :-P

I'm not quite sure which bugs these are supposed to be but here are 3 of the wackiest around

Riding the Orange Stinger...

We think that Mulan was Filipino. Wonder how much that wig weighs.

Going through the Hollywood Backlot, on the way to Tower of Terror. They have an animation showcase around here where we played with zoetropes for a bit.

Pixar balloons...Nemo, Mr. Incredible, Buzz Lightyear

Inside the boiler room of the Tower of Terror

"...and 3 people died on this ride a few months ago..." :-P

Angela is quite scary when she puts her hair down...very Sadako ala Ring/Ringu-esque

Beautiful Purple Tree...can anyone identify it?

Jim Henson's Muppet-Vision 3-D...um yeah...after "It's Tough To Be A Bug ", this was pretty underwhelming.

Had lunch at the Plaza Inn (just like old times) before the whole clam chowder business.

Cathy had this kid's meal

Emily and Angela had Fried Chicken?!!! Apparently it was either A) Really good because it was really good or B) Really good because they haven't had fried chicken or fried stuff for that matter in years. "Bawk bawk bawk was awesome!"

My pot roast

Airplane!!! Someone is getting fed and is a little shy about it...hahahaha

"Hey, you droids on transport 22, get back to work!"...Star Tours is one of my favorite rides from way back when I was a kid. Once my mom took me and my sis specifically to Disneyland to go on that ride. Went...waited in line...rode the ride...went home. lol I even remember vaguely when it was Monsanto's Adventure Thru Inner Space ride. After reading some online articles, apparently that ride was THE makeout ride back in the day. A title that the Haunted Mansion now holds. Yesterland contains tons of info on old rides.

"If this transport is the best, then why are we always repairing it?"

Check out these hairdos

"May I have your attention please? At this time, I'd like to take a moment to revue our boarding process with you. When the automatic doors have opened, please proceed directly across the ramp, into the cabin. Continue to move all the way across your aisle, filling in every available seat. For your safety, all passengers are required to wear safety restraints thru out the flight. To fasten the restraint, pull the strap out from the right side of the seat and snap it into the console to your left. Galactic regulations require that all carry on items be safely stowed beneath your seat. While on board, flash photography is not permitted and please, no smoking at any time. If you have any questions, feel free to ask an attendant. You'll be boarding in just a few moments. Thank you, and have a pleasant tour."

Posters on the way out from Star Tours...

Special floral arrangement for the 50th anniversary...lots of the number 50 around

Strapped in for the "Soarin over California" ride.

I think Emily likes to pretend that she's flying

The first shot is of San Francisco

Death Valley?

Cathy and Mr. Potato Head...notice her Happy Birthday sticker. All these cast members would congratulate her on her birthday...lol

Emily was totally prepped for a day in the sun...

The makeshift canopy (not a tent)

Dragging around the kids...

Astroblasters is an awesome ride...you go around a track and shoot at aliens with a laser gun. You can see your running total and then you can send a pic of yourself to an email address on the spot. Pretty neat.

The rides

You can even control the spin of the car to angle yourself better for shots...

Earned a Level 3 on my first try...did better the next day.

Hehehe...horribly poses. Apparently, noone except me was using the sight at the end of the gun to line up targets...it was a "secret" that I imparted to great effect.

People preparing to videotape Mickey climbing the Matterhorn

Mickey waves...

Didn't get a chance to take a pic of the Mickey Mouse Ice Cream Sandwich before the ears were devoured. By the time my sis had 1 ear off, Emily's Mickey had most of its head masticated away already. Therefore, Cathy's will have to do.

The Matterhorn is much bumpier than I remembered...still it made for an exciting ride.

New decorations on the Sleeping Beauty castle. So Sleeping Beauty castles can be found in Disneyland, Hong Kong Disneyland, and Paris Disneyland. Cinderella castles can be found at Walt Disney World and Tokyo Disneyland. The castle in Paris does look different from the ones in Anaheim and Paris though. Also in Japan, they have another castle called Atlantica which people could consider Ariel's castle.

The waterfall next to the Sleeping Beauty Wishing well

They put crowns on top of all the castle spiers.

Some more PSP action while waiting for the Walt Disney's Parade of Dreams

My sister looked pretty funny because at one point she wasn't even sitting on the blanket at all

Tinkerbell...we sat where we did so that we'd have a great view of the fireworks not because of the parade.

Beauty and the Beast

Gepeto

Bungee Puppets

Ariel

Ursula

The caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland

Royal Court

"No! My hair is messy!!!"

Getting ready for some hand-raising fun on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

My favorite turtles. I don't know why I like them but I've liked them ever since I was young.

Big Thunder is a great ride

The "Remember...Dreams Come True" Fireworks Spectacular was really awesome. So glad we had good seats (got there and had people rotating in and out) for it right smack dab in the middle. I love the Tomorrowland portion. I got my dad's DVD and I've probably re-watched the show like 10 times.

Tons of people trying to get to Fantasmic...

Apparently, Angela and her friends spent some time at Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante (hosted by Ortega) in Frontierland. Here she is reminiscing

Getting ready to get soaked on Splash Mountain

Alright!...we made it!

I think Cathy was the cool one in this pic...

Ended the day with a carousel ride instead of Astroblasters...sigh...hehehe...actually it was kinda fun since everyone groaned when it closed down

The end of the first day...awwww sweetie looks a tad tired :-P
