This was Emily's first time at Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills...I hadn't been there in years. Pretty much how I remembered it though although this time I recognized many more brands.
Emily loved the area...I tried to extricate her as soon as possible...hehehe jk
For lunch, we went to Curry House in Japantown...an old old favorite of mine. Here is the corn chowder soup...I like it a lot.
Emily's omelet over rice with shrimp
I went with the seafood curry this time instead of the beef. Very interesting that they had a whole huge scallop in there...
We passed by the new Walt Disney theatre...reminds me a lot about the other Gehry building (the Experience Music Project museum) in Seattle. Apparently they had to sand it down because the reflection was blinding the people in the offices nearby.
Went to the Getty Museum in the afternoon...you only need to pay for parking ($7?) to get in. Very sweet. This is the tram that you ride up to the top where the Getty Museum is...Hoo and Chee made fun of the fact that I called it the J. Paul Getty Museum but I've really heard it called both...at least on the website they use both.
They even have loaner umbrellas during hot days...hehehe
Statue of a Centaur with its Base possibly by Bartolomeo Cavaceppi. Getty Link
My favorite piece from the Getty and it wasn't on display...sigh...this museum has far fewer pieces on display than the old Malibu location.
Musical Group on a Balcony by Gerrit van Honthorst. Getty Link
This piece is actually mounted on a ceiling...I wonder if people miss seeing it...
Christ Crowned with Thorns by Gerrit van Honthorst. Getty Link and Christ and the Adulteress by Valentin de Boulogne. Getty Link
Still Life with Dead Birds by Christoffel van den Berghe. Getty Link
This picture was sooooo lifelike...almost like a photograph...Dutch painters loved painting light and how it interacts with their subjects...
Landscape with St. John the Baptist Preaching by Jan Brueghel the Elder. Getty Link
This painting is really really small yet all the people in it got a lot of attention...the guard probably had a heart attack seeing Emily come sooooo close to actually touching it....tsk tsk Emily! If you want to steal it, you have to be more subtle about it...:-P besides, I'm supposed to be humming/clicking the "Thomas Crowne Affair" soundtrack at the same time to make it cooler.
Musician's Brawl by Georges de la Tour. Getty Link
This is one of my favorite paintings from way back when I started going to the Getty....there's just something about how everyone has a different expression that makes this piece stand out.
Bacchante with an Ape by Hendrick ter Brugghen. Getty Link
She looks like she's having fun...also a favorite from a long time ago
Still Life with Lemons, Oranges and a Pomegranate by Jacob van Hulsdonck Getty Link
Portrait of a Young Woman by Nicolaes Eliasz. Pickenoy. Getty Link
Hehehe I love these series of pictures that I took of Emily without her knowledge...imagine if you were one of the guards and saw this....lol
Getting closer...
Here's where I almost gasped cause for a split second I thought she was going to touch or lick the painting...lol later I told her that if she had tasted it, it probably would have tasted like oil...200 hundred year old oil. :-P Actually, Emily told me that she was interested in it because the artist had used gold paint for the dress.

hahhahaha I'm so glad Emily posed for this picture....hehehehe I love it!
View of LA from the Getty Museum
Emily and her family stayed in that cylindrical hotel on the right.
One of the Pair of Tureens, Liners, and Stands by Thomas Germain. Getty Link
In the future I would like my stews to be served in a tureen.
Writing and Toilette Table by Jean-François Oeben. Getty Link
So the table above was made using a technique called Marquetry. To learn about it, play the video below...
In the garden area of the Museum, there is a stream that is supposed to be "a sculpture in sound". At every bend and section of the stream, the sound that the water makes is supposedly different. I videotaped the different sections but I haven't really made an analysis of the sound. My guess is that there is a difference (due to the different rock formations that the stream goes through) but whether or not it's perceivable is another question.
Hehehe...awwww so cute!
I'm reminded of the 3 monkeys for some reason...you know "The Speak No Evil, Hear No Evil, See no Evil" ones.
It's great how they loan out umbrellas so people can still carry them around outside but not carry them into the museum. Also, it's so cool that they allow photography inside the museum.
Waiting for the Tram...we didn't make it all the way around since we needed to get dinner before meeting up with Chee to go clubbing.
Mmm mmm mmm...good food at Sushi Isshi
The Dynamite was pretty good and it was a lot bigger than the dynamite that you usually get in the Bay Area. After dinner we went to meet up with Chee and then went to a club called Constantine? Then we went to this 24 hr Korean place where we had Soon Doo Boo and tons of other stuff. Great Chap Chae there...they have the fried fish.

Emily liked the garlic noodles (we actually got it as a seperate dish) at Crustacean a lot which I kind of predicted she would cause that was the one thing I liked when I went to Thang Long (Crustacean's sister restaurant in SF)" (Tuesday Jan 17, 06 at 02:38:15 PM)
