Day 1 - Flying to Lima/Cusco

My first pic of the trip of course still had to be food. This was on the flight from Dallas to Lima

Sleeping at Lima Airport...much more comfortable than the Fairbanks airport I slept at in Alaska...some people we met along the way had much more horrible experiences since they didn't know where to stay...

[Picture from Margaret] Margaret thought so too...hahahha...what I'll remember about the airport is how Margaret scared the crap out of me when she woke me up cause she just started shaking me. I was like "Oh my god...something's happened..." hahahaha

Early morning LAN Peru flight from Lima to Cusco. I'm going to include pics on the plane from Lima to Cusco (even though they are technically from Day 2) because they're really part of the same overall day.

Sunrise over the Andes...really spectacular

LAN Peru meal...even though it was only an hour or so flight from Lima to Cusco, they served this breakfast. It was pretty good too.

Andes Mountains

Flying into Cusco...between two mountain ranges...so know I've flown into a valley...and on top of a mountain plateau in China. Next, it'd be really cool to fly into a cave! :-P

Typical Peruvian village...I'll bet it's even got its own Plaza de Armas. I heard from a Belgian that Venezuela has tons of Simon de Bolivar plazas. Even a village of 20 will have a Simon Bolivar plaza or boulevard. hehehe

Journal:
Didn't get any sleep at all because I didn't really pack until late at night. I flew back from Miami and arrived in SFO a little around noon. Rushed around the Bay Area buying stuff that I needed and then rushing off to see Emily before leaving again. Even went into work in order to hook up the server that we had in Miami back into the network. In the morning, I took the Emery Go Around and went to the Macarthur Bart to meet up with Margaret. There was some miscommunication though where Margaret/Christina had gone to pick me up at my place. Whoops. Stood on the platform and eventually another person with a huge backpack came into view. Took Bart all the way to SFO (first time I had taken Bart past the Civic Center exit). Got a United plastic bag to cover my stuff (American Airlines didn't have any) and our trip was underway. The flight to Dallas/Ft Worth was uneventful although I ended up with a worrisome headache. I had gone to see Emily (in her fever sickness) and wondered if I was going to come down with a fever only hours into the trip. Bought some advil at the terminal and hoped for the best. At the terminal, we went to the food court...where I got Chinese/American fast food...also got a sandwhich for dinner but it turned out that it wasn't needed because American provided a quite tasty meal for the flight from Dallas/Ft Worth to Lima. Watching the sunrise from the plane was pretty neat. When we arrived in Lima, we went down and gathered our things. At customs, there was a sign saying htat video game consoles such as Xbox, PS2, Gamecubes were to be declared and apparently was not duty-free. Good thing I didn't bring my PSP along then. When we left the terminal in order to get to the domestic side, we were immediately accosted by tons of people trying to get us to use their taxis or go to their hotels or take their tours. Very hard keeping an eye on out things while wheeling our cart through the throng. Thankfully we made it back inside.I had mentioned before that we had a website that described the expwerience of sleeping in the Lima airport and I must say that it's an incredibly comfortable airport to sleep in. The airport is very clean and modern. After using the business center to check on emails and talk to friends, we went past the checkpoint and started looking for places to sleep. Ended up sleeping pretty well that night...there was a good sense of security. Even the food on the LAN Peru was quite tasty. The mountain range view from the window was quite interesting. When we flew into Cusco, we basically were flying down into a valley with mountain ranges on both sides of the plane.
