Day 6 - Inca Trail - Day 2 - Warmiwanuska(Dead Woman's Pass)

This part was labelled as challenging. And rightly so. Headache was still there and my fingers turned blue but managed to survive. This is the section where I fell off the Inca Trail. It happened somewhere between Dead Woman's Peak and Pacaymayo.

Getting packed up before the long hike ahead… Ever wake up with a headache and then go hiking? It's not fun.

The facilities…I had such a bad headache I wasn’t really in any mood to explore…

Dead Woman’s Pass…you can tell it’s a woman because…

Margaret tries some of my coca leaves

Margaret does not like them

Long trek up

The lunch tent…Boris’ domain

The porters seem to shift duties amongst themselves so that people don’t get stuck carrying heavy stuff the entire time.

[Picture from Margaret] Fishing Margaret?

[Picture from Margaret] Aldo had the Magic Backpack…it even had glucose tablets!!!

[Picture from Margaret] Don’t let my smile fool you…I had a killer headache that day too.

[Picture from Margaret] Leaving the forest behind…time for the final uphill

The uphill…not quite there yet.

One of the guides for another tour picked up a wounded hummingbird. One of its wings was broken it seems.

It was pretty cute

The last few steps of the hike up

Almost couldn’t believe I started from all the way down there…

People sit at the top to either cheer or jeer at the people climbing slowly up.

Oh yeah…made it one piece. My fingers did turn blue on the way up though. Was very disconcerting

4215 Meters (13 828.7402 feet)!!! Mt McKinley, the tallest mountain in North America is 6,194 metres (20,320 feet). Mt Shasta, the tallest mountain in California is 4,322 M (14,179 FT). Mt Everest, the tallest mountain in the world is 8,850 m (29,035 feet)

[Picture from Margaret] Margaret and the Irish Gals got there first, but I was taking my time with pictures and stuff…and staring at my blue fingers.

[Picture from Margaret] I guess she had more energy than I did at the top. Hehehehe

On the other side…looking up

On the other side…looking down

This part of the Inca Trail was a part of the “Incan construction”. I fell off downhill right around here…pretty damn scary.

The grass/reeds that impeded my progress down the mountain.

Ozzy walked on ahead of me

[Picture from Margaret] Margaret! You’re too close to the edge!

The yummiest egg sandwich I’ve ever eaten. Hats off to Boris. Although, 2 seconds after taking this picture, as I bit into it, it exploded and all this yolk went over me.

Really interesting plants on the way down…

Bull’s head lilies…lots of lilies around the Inca Trail

The camp ahead at Pacaymayo and the next day’s trail up the next pass.

Hummingbird on the way

[Picture from Margaret] Some fool went up to see the falls by himself. Ozzy and I saw him go up but he didn’t want to come back…later you could see the lights of the porters on the mountain looking for him. Turns out he was crying out for help and was too scared to make his way down I guess….what an idiot.

Pacaymayo is next to many streams…this is one of them.

View from the tent

[Picture from Margaret] The tent is Boris’ domain.

[Picture from Margaret] Margaret and the porters

[Picture from Margaret] Well, I wasn’t the one trying to take picture so I’m not responsible for the quality of the images.

Margaret shows the porters the picture

Ozzy present the porters while we sip Sangria

[Picture from Margaret] Boris keeps warm

[Picture from Margaret] Boris’ kitchen

[Picture from Margaret] The porters gather inside for warmth

Tomato stuffed beef and cauliflower…illuminated with the help of many LED headlamps
