Day 7 - Inca Trail - Day 3 - Phuyupatamarka/Winaywayna

This part was labelled as unforgettable. It really was pretty but it probably would have been better if the clouds/fog had lifted from the ruins. I enjoyed watching them around the mountains though. Not too hard of a day...my headaches really started lessening at this point.
Early morning…slight drizzle…getting ready for another climb
Ruins at Runkuracay
Unfortunately…mist obscured the view from Runkuracay

[Picture from Margaret] Interesting building design
At the top of Peak 2…everyone’s got their ponchos out
Have to be extremely careful going down these steps since they were all slippery
Another incidence of high altitude sickness
The dropoff was quite scary…gotta watch where you’re going
Really pretty flower
Interesting flower spores
Another pretty flower
Slipper lily
Interesting white flower
These steps were REALLY steep…went down backwards on this one
Ruins at Sayaqmarka
Cool round area
[Picture from Margaret] Sporting my poncho
[Picture from Margaret] Ozzy looks kinda funny in this one…hehe
[Picture from Margaret] You can kind of get a sense for the type of forest/jungle we were in…
Passing some random farming terraces
More pretty flowers
[Picture from Margaret] Lunchtime!
These tunnels were carved during Incan times…
Along the ridge to the 3rd pass
Only frog I saw during the trip…heard a lot of them though
Aldo put it on his hand…later Ozzy was like telling him that was pretty foolhardy cause there were many poisonous frogs along the trail

[Picture from Margaret] Hey! How come I didn’t get a thumbs up?!!!
The third pass of Phuyupatamarka
It’s really neat being in the clouds
Incan ruins at Phuyupatamarka
Steep trail still…actually this section had some of the steepest and to my mind most dangerous steps.
Keep in mind that it was still drizzling off and on
“Incan construction” at Phuyupatamarka
[Picture from Margaret] Puyupatamarka Terraces?
Enjoying the view
There seem to be at least 1 of these kinds of rooms in every ruin
Very steep…I can’t imagine climbing it…
Margaret was talking to Aldo below and I couldn’t help but take this pic. Hehehe
One of my favorite pictures from Peru.
[Picture from Margaret] I better not fall…
[Picture from Margaret] Getting ready for more downhill…
[Picture from Margaret] Are those even steps? Seriously…
Resting on the way down…clouds are so cool
Really pretty lilies
The terraces at Huinay Wuayna…didn’t get to go
Steep steps
More steep steps
Machu Picchu is just right around the corner…
Really pretty lily but due to the light conditions, I couldn’t get a really good shot
Fanta in a bottle…in Peru, they take the bottles and re-use them. This was not long after arriving at Winaywayna
Beets with a mouse on top
Noodles with a condor on top
Stuffed tomatoes
Fried rice with a hummingbird on top
Really good stuffed chicken
I think everyone is just glad that nobody got hurt. A woman from another group broke her leg.
Hmmmmm….
The group with the porters…
