Yah! Well I finished a week's worth of work at Christianity.com. The job has turned out to be a really huge learning experience. In one week, I've worked on 1 project involving proprietary Vignette code, HTML, Javascript, Tkl/Tk, and SQL. Me and my friend's code will probably make it into the final release of the website. It's really fun to work in the kind of environment I'm in now. On Thursday night, I won some headphones in a bug-hunting contest. This Saturday, I went to the company picnic. Free food and lotsa fun. Heh heh. Maybe I'll get some pictures of my workplace up next week.
This weekend, I've been to Circuit City, Best Buy, and Fry's looking at laptops. I've pretty much decided on getting a Sony. I really like the light ones. I wanted a DVD-Drive with the laptop but it seems that if I really want it to be light, it has to be without it. I haven't yet seen the Toshiba Portege 7200 yet so that's still a possibility. Laptop drives are so big now, and performance nearly matching desktops, it's amazing. I just hope that I'll have enough money o purchase one. Practically drooling over the laptops over at Best Buy. I kinda decided not to buy it at a store because of the higher price and tax but we shall see.
Sci-Fi has been playing a lot of movies lately. I've also seen a lot of movies recently. On Wednesday, I saw Mission Impossible 2. Great motorcycle scenes. Although some of the scenes were pretty cheesy, the action I thought made up for it. Yesterday, I saw Dinosaurs and Shanghai Noon. I thought that Dinosaur had a really great intro and then mellowed out. Shanghai Noon was pretty good, keeping the action and the comedy going. Chris went in thinking that it wouldn't be that good but I think he was pleasantly surprised. Sci-Fi is playing Dune now. I really like the plot line. I really should get the entire series. Anyways, I plan to goto work tomorrow even though its Memorial Day. I'll get payed a bit more, and I don't really have plans to it works for me. With such a short commute, it's not a big problem. Last week, me and Nanny went to Ikea and bought some furniture. I got a 6-shelf bookcase, a 6-drawer dresser, a baking pan, and a hanging light. I'll get pics when I get a chance as well.
Whoo, it's been a long time since I updated my page. Most of it was due to finals and stuff. Anyways, my last final is tomorrow at noon (Sociology 3) so pretty soon I'll be officially in summer mood. I've made some hefty game downloads and TV episodes in the meanwhile. I'll write something about em after finals. On Saturday, I'll be flying down to Orange County in the morning and on Sunday, I'll be driving back up here in the Camry so that I can start working at the startup. Nifty! Good Luck to everyone on their remaining finals and I'll post something more substantial soon!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY SIS, CATHY, AND MY DAD!!! Here's the Flash Card that I sent them.
Well, I reread this morning's post and was shocked to discover that there were more swear words in that post than there were in the South Park movie! Unfortunately, in my zeal to get out a post after those events, I fell into the "angry 'cause it's 2AM and I haven't gotten any sleep" mood. That probably explains the amount of foul language and temperament. Sorry to all you out there who took a look at my site and then had to close it quickly afraid that people around you might see you reading it. Usually I'm not the Fountain of Swear as opposed to the Fountain of Funk, but you have to admit I had a pretty rough day yesterday with a lab report due and all. Having to wake up at 8:30 AM for that 9 AM lab was really painful. Well, EE105 sure is a pain in the rear. I'm going to have to go over all the fricken lectures in detail again if I'm ever going to really understand two-port models, emitters, sources, and Bode plots like a good student should.
You know, today is the 30th anniversary of the Kent State incident where 4 students were killed by the National Guard while protesting the Vietnam War. I took a little test to see if I would have been a participant in the Vietnam War through CNN.com. (Sorry the feature has been discontinued). By selecting your birthday, you would then be given the actual draft number that was assigned to that day. The lower the number the better the chances were of getting sent to Vietnam. Out of the number that was drafted, only 30% actually were sent to Vietnam. My number was 32 out 365, so very likely I would have been drafted. I think my nearsightedness would have put a dint in the actual selection but it kinda makes you think what all those men thought about. Undoubtedly, many were proud to serve as their fathers and grandparents had but would that be the case today? Prof. Edwards in my Sociology class brought up many interesting points about the "modern" military of today. Since we have a voluntary army, most of the conscripts are from lower-class families with nowhere else to go. Since our weapons are so high-tech, manuals have to be printed in comic-book form in order for the grunts to understand them. The army has increasingly turned to commercials for fresh recruits offering high-tech education. However, if the recruit proves himself to be unable to learn as quickly as their superiors want them to (as many are, being from inferior-education neighborhoods), they transfer the recruit to do the grunt work. Do we really want all those weapons at the hands of the illiterate/uneducated of America? Increasingly, the higher ranks of the America are being filled with people who are good at selling weapons to Congress and the American public, not people with good military minds and tactics. Although it is those people that allow millions of jobs to continue (in the weapons sector which depend largely on government contracts), I'd rather not have a pencil-pusher in charge of weapons of mass destruction.
Whew, long day, lotsa things to say about what happened today. Anyhow, at first, when I read the Daily Cal today I thought that this day would be the one day where there would be nothing interesting happening besides the Gladiator movie. If only that were true! As I was making my way to the bus-stop to get to my Sociology 3 class, this "African-American" male walks along side of me and asks," Are you in pre-calculus or calculus?" I've decided to put out 2 different versions of what happened in simultaneous table format so you can decide for yourself which actually happened.
| 1st Version | 2nd Version |

Me: Huh? Him: what the f&*^? (face implies that he thinks that I don't understand him) Me: Hey, you don't have to talk to me like that! Him: What are you going to do about it? Me: Step up! (I try to look as big as I can possible be) Him and I stare down at each other. He turns away and insults an Asian girl walking down the street. Asian girl hurls curses at him with great speed and alacrity. |
Me: I'm in college. Him: what the hell? (face implies that he thinks that I'm stupid and shouldn't be in college Me: Hey, don't take that tone of language with me, asshole. Him: What are you going to do about it, bitch? Me: I'm going to rip you a new one, fucker. Him and I stare down at each other. He turns away and insults an Asian girl walking down the street. Asian girl hurls curses at him with great speed and alacrity. |
I thought over the new version while on the bus. That version was what I thought would have been best. Anyways, only one is the right one and the other is probably what I would say if I saw that fucker again. Whoops.
Well, it's time to tell all about my experience watching Gladiator today. Here's the rundown of what happened in an easily-digestible format. Gooey!
4-5:30 PM - In Sociology 3 Class5:45-6 PM - Arrive in Wheeler while Nanny gets nachos. I go to the stand in front and get freebies, not knowing that a line 100 people long has already formed alongside a wall that I didn't see (it's the east side wall which also snaked to the north side where I took my place in line).
6 - 6:15 PM - Eat Nachos while the 2 people in front of us magically ( damn those faeries) turn into 8 people. (Damn em.)
6:16 PM - Line starts moving
6:17 PM - Frat boy decided to move in front of me. Had to be restrained by Nanny from getting physical. Decided to be obnoxious and talk loudly about stupid frat boy. I've had enough of assholes for one day. Faeries produce frat boy's friend as well. (damn)
6:20 PM - Ahhh.got seats in the middle of the middle section near the middle. SWEET!!! (like Cartman would say.)
6:21-6:50 PM - Finish nachos and most of my leftover Chawan-Mushi. Wait for movie to begin. Guy tries to start a wav by running from left to right waving his arms on the stage. Gets booed and becomes the target of 3 or 4 projectiles by the audience for his efforts. He tries this several times to no avail. Some Russian? people decided to stack out much of a row for their friends obviously not caring that there are TONS of people walking around trying to find a fricken seat. The Russian? lamely explains that her friend is in the bathroom even though the people in charge have already said that whomever isn't in the auditorium won't be allowed inside.
7 PM - Place is packed like crazy. Turns out that some people with tickets are being kept out of the auditorium because its packed. This makes some people pissed off. (Even though it states on the ticket that having it doesn't guarantee admission or a seat. Obviously, they consist of freshman who don't yet know the draw of the words "free" and "movie".
7:10 PM - After passing out some prizes (where one of the Russians? wins and all the Russian? girls scream in extreme delight as if they've fricken won the lottery or something (it was a beach towel). The audience typically booed everyone who got a prize except the bodybuilder guy who no one booed. Hahaha.
7:12 PM - Previews roll.
7:16 PM - Lights go back on. Everyone goes,"WHAT?" Person gets up on stage and says,"Someone pulled the fire alarm. Now everyone needs to go outside and wait for the firemen to clear the building." Mass pandemonium, everyone wants to know if there seats will be saved or not. Crap, I waited an hour and a half for these seats (I'm not one of the Star Wars campers). I WANT MY FREE MOVIE!!! 7:45 PM - After an episode with the "Shouting" Man, we finally make it back inside after a lot of standing around in sardine-like clusters, pushing and shoving after about 30 minutes of it.
8 PM - Movie finally starts. Blood. Gore. Glory. Ahh.
11 PM - We trudge back home.
Thoughts about Gladiator -
Russell Crowe needs to speak louder. The guy disguised his voice so much that it became
too low. Great movie especially when you have an audience that cheers when the bad guy
dies, goes,"Ooooo" when there's tons of gore and whistles when the guy and the girl get
together. That made this movie really enjoyable I thought. Experience may vary but I
thought that all in all the plot was alright (except for the sobbing scene that
Commodus has in front of his father.that was a crackup). The battle scenes are spectacular
and the roar of the Colisseum really carried the movie to its epic end.
Ok..finally..time to go to bed!!! Whew!
Late post today, due to being out of the apartment. Made some more Chawan-Mushi today. No squid but more eggs. Definitely better than last time. Now I know where the hot spots in the oven are. Jasmine says that I am the Chawan-Mushi something. Forgot what it was. But it would be pretty cool if there are a lot of people out there who like me love this stuff (second of course to Jook). I could customize orders and put stuff in it that people want like beef, pork, crab stuff like that. HMMMM..haven't tried beef not sure what that would taste like. Wooo.I'm cooking on the fringe now!
I saw the Dark Crystal yesterday. Exactly how I remember it. Forgot about that "sucking the essense out of the little white dwarves" part.
Who's heard about this Napster thing? How Metallica and Dr. Dre are suing Napster over providing their songs online? Well Metallica sent Napster a HUGE manuscript with all the names of people that were sharing Metallica songs with instructions for Napster to ban those users. I checked Napster a little while ago and the songs are still being shared. Stupid Metallica, they've probably lost all their teenage fans right there with that litigation.
So who likes the new Perimeter buses? They're clean but they happen to be very hard to differentiate from the AC buses from far away. Frustrating cause I'm always trying to guess which bus it is without getting it right. Typical conversation at the busstop:
Me: hmm
Other person: Is that the bus?
Me: hmm
Other person: Looks like it.
Me: hmm.well
Other person: wait.wait.wait.it's orange..no, it's blue
Me: it's orange
Other person: hmm.yah.dang, I'm late for class.
Me: hmm.wait, look at the one behind that one.
Other person: no no.its turning to the left.see?
Me: ah.right.hmm
Well, anyways I can't wait for the school to end. Even if I'm working, I'll be doing stuff I like and I'll be making bank while doing it too.
GLADIATOR REVIEW TOMORROW!!!
Yesterday, we saw What Dreams May Come again with Chris and Jasmine. Which brings me to Chris.he hasn't even deigned to look at this website. It took him several weeks to even reply to an ICQ message. Anyways, since he doesn't read my posts, I can deride him as much as possible. Heh heh.
Ach, back to classes today. So I go to class to learn about signal processing and stuff and before class started I read today's Daily Cal. Y. Peter Kang and Ross Clippinger (a friend who worked with me at Administrative Computing) are my favorite columnists. Today Y. Kang decided to talk about scat. But the story about a dog, Y. Kang, an urge, and a little poo picnic made my day.
I rode this Bus Ride from hell today to get to Sociology class. First the bus was 12 minutes late. Then the old guy kept on stopping the bus every other foot. Nauseous Bus aside, it seemed that the bus never made it above 10. So picture this in your mind. A bus that moves INCREDIBLY slowly and still lurching about because of the brakes. Awful.
I got the Dark Crystal DVD today to add to my collection of DVDs (42). I remember how that movie was great when I was a kid.
A little blurb I read in the Daily Cal.a female cadet got demoted for not responding to a "traditional" prank properly. Apparently, a freshman snuck underneath a table, and poured ketchup in her shoe. She then took off her shoe and poured it on the freshman. She then got demerits, was demoted, and was also forced to do 2000 minutes of marching with a rifle at a beat of 120 steps per minute (I think that at 2 steps a second, its known as double quick step time or something like that). Pretty stupid eh? Stupid Citadel and their stupid pranks.
