Funny comic. Code actually works.
House of Prime Rib vs Home Cooking
Had lunch with Nancy awhile back. The ribs at the Ferry Building just isn't enough. Note for next time I go. Apparently, Margaret's family passed by the Half Moon bay horse ranch that same weekend. However, her mom was afraid of the sun just like every other asian mom. Hehe. "Pa Sai Tai Yan" I've heard that phrase so many times from so many people.
My clie came back on Friday! Yippee...good as new if not better. So happy. Loaded up the old stuff back on. Works great.
Tried going to Lee's but for some reason they didn't have the steamcart. Weird. Had Hunan combo fried rice instead. It's really good but of course they use chicken white meat. I think the underground place's combination hunan plate is much better.
Finished Kimi Ga Nozomu Ein. Dang, I can't believe Fred recommended it to me. Still it's a great drama with more ups and downs than Meteor Garden. It's based off a hentai game though so there were a few shocker moments. It was far more tame than say "Ninja Scroll" though. Leah seemed to like the drama...I have a feeling that many asian girls enjoy these romantic dramas. My mom and sister both read Marmalade Boy and that's a really messed up series.
So the Kings really beat up the Lakers in the end but lost the Pacific championship to them and ended up with a 4th seed in the playoffs. Why? They're off to a good start though. As usual, everyone gets the butts in gear for the playoffs. Even Webber is looking alive. Finally!
There's this Pacbell Learning Center in Emeryville near PPP that has all these telephone poles and stuff around the place. Like 10 poles in a 20 by 20 area. I guess they learn how to climb those things there.
Got my black socks at Costco along with some fuel injection additive. Figure, it's about time I clear those pipes a bit.
Friday was a blast!!! Everything really worked out well. All the East Bay'ers met up at my place and then drove into the city. We did end up 20 min or so late but we did get to use the carpool lane. Actually Eric, Fred, and I got there, met up with Jeff and just started eating. Hehehe. Was so hungry. Man, the shabu shabu meat is so good. Lih-Chern, Leah, and Margaret arrived a bit later. And then Chris arrived after that. Had a lot of meat, but also had veggies (mostly cause Margaret was putting them in hahaha). Had a little Asahi beer which is really light. Not that I'd ever get it on my own but it's not BAD like other beers can be. Every time we raised toasts, Eric and Fred held strong with the "water club"...hahaha it's one of those "had to be there" kind of things. As usual I was the last one still standing. I love that green tea ice cream they have at the end. I felt like I was getting roasted by everyone during dinner, even Lih-Chern made fun. That's cool though. I can take it all.
Afterwards, we went back to my apartment to get the Xbox cause it was gametime at Jeff's again. Played 8-player Halo. Actually me, Fred, Eric, and Lih-Chern warmed up a bit before. It was a lot of fun and action but once again, Jeff and Mark proved to be quite capable of handling uneven odds.
Leah is knitting a scarf for me!!! It's black and green and really nice! Can't wait. Reminds me of all those things my sister knit. I'm still trying to get Leah to make it an Xbox scarf for E3 but she wasn't really interested in that idea! hehe
Had pomfret with cajun spices the other day. It was pretty good. I'm going to go back and trying to eat more fish.
Started reading Harry Potter: Order of the Phoenix because Cathy wants it back now. Harry Potter is now an egotistical brat! Blame it on hormones.
Iron Chef America this weekend. Mario Batali, Wolfgang Puck, and Bobby Flay vs Sakai and Morimoto. It's going to be sweet. I'm working at Moscone though this weekend so I don't know if I can do a Iron Chef party. Maybe it's still possible.
E3 is coming up. So excited am I. I wonder who they have performing at the Sony Party this year.
My Clie is coming back into my hands supposedly on Friday. Can't wait. It's been so long. Apparently, they did have to order a part. Luckily I didn't have to pay for it. Wonder if its a new screen.
Watched Ring 0: Birthday. Take a look at the synopsis from Amazon I think..."More psychic goings on in this prequel to 'Ring', Sadako takes a job in a Tokyo theatre company and soon people start dying..." Hahahaha. The movie was alright. Good precurser to The Ring. Speaking of which...someone's birthday is coming up. :-P
Went to Anzu for the first time in almost a year and a half. They really redecorated the inside last August. There's an extra area for eating now and there's now a lot of Japanese decorations (finally!!!). Still got the Chicken Curry but this time the curry and the rice came separately. Kinda weird but cool. The owner-lady (Misao?) knew me by name once I came in and it felt good to eat there again. We talked for a little bit. She was like,"Did you know that Adam is in Japan?" duh.... hahahaha that would have been hilarious if I was like "REALLY?!!!! So that's why I never see him in the apartment anymore....ah...sodesne." hahahaha Unfortunately, Anzu has drastically raised their prices for some items. 2-item combo is now like $15 and the 3-item is close to $20.
Before I went to Anzu, I actually got a haircut at Great Clips. I always get a haircut like the guy on the poster on the backwall of Great Clips. I need to take a picture of that poster in case they take it away.
Afterwards, I met up with Eric and Fred in Concord to watch Hellboy, the movie adaptation of the comic. As I was driving to the theater, an amazing sight did my eyes see. A FRY'S IN CONCORD!!! Yep, no more trips to Auto Mall Pkwy in Fremont. Went inside to look around a bit. No discernable theme though. It was like the Fremont one (really bright) but no cool electricity models. Hellboy was alright, CG was really good (love the flames) but the story was only so so. Had late-night Denny's afterwards where I learned that Eric really doesn't like camping.
I've had the chicken fried rice a few times in the Underground Food Court. Good stuff. Huge portions.
Made mashed potatoes the other day from the bag of russets I bought for $2.
Last Friday, Eric, Leah and I went to Jeff's place in SF to play some multiplayer Halo. Parking near Golden Gate Park can really be nuts. Anyways, we played some Kung Fu Chaos which was really fun and then moved on to the real action with Halo. 7 people playing which was cool. I seem to do better in melee than in sniper maps. By the end I had a pretty big un-burst blister on my left thumb.
On Saturday, Eric came over and hung out. Watched a little bit of the Bachelor and Iron Chef. Went to see "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind". Pretty good movie. Pace and style were very much like "Being John Malkovich". Went to Circuit City for a bit to take a look at the LCD projection TVs. These are so much better than regular projection. Talked to a guy about black levels between different ones. Apparently the Sony one really is the best compared to the Panasonic which I saw at Best Buy (CC had both). Ergh...the money to spend on a new tv just increased by a grand. Went to Hot Pot City afterwards where the "seater" person wanted to put us at the crappy table where there's a column on 1 side of the table. I was like "Oh no you don't." Got seated elsewhere but it was in front of the door which acted like a windtunnel every time the door opened.
On Sunday, drove up to Diablo State Park near Danville. That road is one of the windiest AND most dangerous roads I've ever been on. No guard rails on a windy mountain road upwards of 1000 ft. Due to parking and the lack of good communication we all ended up having the BBQ in San Ramon/Danville near where Eric lives. Chris and Lori brought all the stuff. I brought ice. Hehe. Saw kids with UFO discs (you know the ones you see on TV where they are basically aluminum balloons flattened out) and Powerwheel cars. Stinking little rich kids. Never got a powerwheels when I was a wee lad. The BBQ chicken was pretty good. So was the sliced peppers. Went to my place afterwards where we played Scrabble. Came in last. Aargh. I WILL PREPARE. Plus I need to get a better dictionary than the pocket one I have now. It's definitely not good enough. I blame the fact that the board was turned upside down for me. Went to Korean market and got 3 containers of marinated chicken, 1 container of spicy pork, 1 tray of jumbo shrimp, 2 containers of mushrooms and the ingredients for Eric's Garlic Ginger Snaps. Had Teppanyaki in the nook of my apartment. Lotsa fun. I really need to get a bigger table or get another one of the same size/height. Chris played Mario Kart intermittently. Cleanup was alright cause Chu helped out a lot. I watched Schindler's List that night. Didn't get to sleep till kinda late. Let's just say that it was later than usual.
I get free OJ at Denny's on Saturday. YAY!!! It was a mistake on their part.
Had a Prime Rib at Lyon's. It's been so long since I've had it. I want to go to House of Prime Rib sometime.
Eric has been going on the Atkins diet for a few months now and it's really working out for him. Also eating his vegetables so it's not just meat. Lih-Chern says that our bodies still need stuff that only carbs can give though.
The new Hikki single for Casshern is alright. Not too shabby. I'm waiting for a cool PV to come out for it to show scenes from the movie.
This Friday is Shabu Shabu night in J-town!!! We've got 12 people lined up now so it should be a blast. Wai-Lin is coming up from LA that weekend too so hopefully we'll have even more people. Should be pretty exciting. They raised the price a little bit though to reflect the changes to the price of meat. Sux. But GREAT food nonetheless.
I've finished Fushigi Yuugi and watched the first OVA. I'm going to stop now cause I'm getting tired of the story line.
Whew big post.
Not too much happened during the weekdays really. On Friday, I had lunch with Margaret who only works a few blocks from me at the Army Corp of Engineers. They even have a guy called the Colonel (it's his actual title) there!!! I had wanted to go to this burger joint called Taylor's Refresher but once again it had a line a mile long. At 11:30AM!!! Apparently the original Taylor's Refresher is a popular place up in Napa, actually St. Helena. Instead went to this place near the old Yoshinoya called Focaccia, which had a REALLY good Chicken Club Sandwich. There was a Purina Dog Show near there so there were a few jumping dogs and clowns with invisible dogs for entertainment.
Stayed at the hostel near Half Moon Bay to prepare for horseback riding on Saturday. There was a lighthouse nearby and everything. Brought steak but forgot to bring anything else so pretty much had noodles instead. Met two guys who were driving around the country from North Carolina. They really were enjoying the coast after a lot of desert. The hostel wasn't as good as the one in the Redwoods but you could hear the waves from this one.
Next morning was Horseback riding. They have a special at the horse ranch where it's $30 for 2 hours. Half on trail and half on beach. SOOOO AWESOME. Everyone (Me, Chris, Jasmine, Keith, Leah, Lori) met up and started horseback riding. Poor Leah, her horse kept having a mind of its own. Nipping at other horses and even her. It was amazing she stayed on for as long as she did. Mine was pretty competitive but also hungry. So it would eat and then run to catch up with the others. About halfway through, another group of about 10 people caught up and we were like this big group till the end. Kinda like what I imagine a cattle roundup would have been like. The best part was when we went on the beach. Last Saturday was really the perfect day to go horseback riding on the beach. The sun was out, little fog. It was great. Had lunch at this Hawaiian place called Ono Grill. Pretty good stuff. I got the Pork Kahlua which was just right. Afterwards, went to the movies with Chris and Lori and saw Jersey Girl. The acting for the most part was horrible. The chemistry Affleck and Tyler had in Armageddon is totally lost now. Don't know what happened. Went to San Jose to Lori's apartment (one of her roommates was watching the first season of Meteor Garden) and played Upwords. Me and Lori were close but she really pulled away in the end (Crews over Coins plus multiple attached words). What could have been a wonderful day was marred by the fact that I got ticketed for driving on the rails in San Jose. In San Francisco, you can do it but in San Jose you can't (well, you can at times and other times you can't...it's really stupid) and the signs pointing this out was very badly placed. Anyways, the cop was probably a newbie and charged me incorrectly. Took tons of pics and now I'm looking forward to showing the City of San Jose whats what. More details on it as they emerge. Even while I was taking pics for evidence, I saw a car almost do the exact same thing I did except they did this dangerous merge to get out of it. Ergh...we'll see what happens.
I finished Nadesico...watched Il Mare with Cathy at the Redwoods...and now I'm watching Fushigi Yuugi. I'm really hating that Yui girl. She needs to get her attitude readjusted.
I won the NCAA BBall office pool. Yay!!! Too bad I didn't make any good Semi-Final/Final picks. Those Semi-Final games were REALLLY close though.
I saw a helicopter near the Bay Bridge hauling underneath it a letter A. It was huge. Wonder what it was for. It reminded me of something from Sesame Street. I could just imagine Elmo coming out and saying,"Today's show was brought to you by the letter...A!!!"
Wonderfalls has been cancelled after 4 episodes. Too quirky I suppose. I didn't like the 2nd episode...dialogue was pretty dumb.
Had Koryo Korean Soon Doo Boo. HMMMMMMMMMMMM
Bought Thomas English Muffins. Lih-Chern says I can just toast them using a frying pan. Haven't tried it before but hopefully they'll taste as good as I remember them to be.
Comcast is taking over the TV network here from Castle Cable. I hope they still have free TV. Be really sad if that got taken away. I'll enjoy cable internet using Comcast though. Never had much problems with them. Plus then I'll be able to really get my Steel Battalion on.
Really sorry about the delays in posting. This primarily has to do with the fact that my Clie has been out of commision for a week now and I really relied on it to make all these posts. The display is getting funky and luckily it's still under warranty so hopefully I won't have to pay anything to get it fixed. All I know is that it's in San Diego and some technician is working on it. Scary stuff esp since on Cliesource people have been posting with horrifying stories of Clie mutilation at the hands of some inept San Diego techmonkey. I took pics of mine with a newspaper behind it for proof in case they try to pull the same stunt on me. I've gone to jotting down stuff on my Outlook Notes but it's not the same spontaneous type stuff that I usu can't remember later when I do the posts. Anyways, I was able to get some stuff down.
Last Friday, I had dinner with my parents and aunt/uncle/cousin at that chinese place in Pleasanton that we always go to. I was told a few funny stories from Orange County (the O.C. hahaha). Apparently, my sister is getting hit on by the Hispanics at the carwash (so much so that she washes her own car now...supposedly illegal in Laguna Niguel due to soap runoff...bad bad Cathy...think of those poisoned seals) and also that the flowerbed in front of our house has been replaced with a large group of...get this...SILK FLOWERS. So many people passing by our house have gotten a kick out it apparently. They all laugh hysterically at it. My mom plans on rotating the flowers for different seasons. I wonder if she's going to do designs with it. I just hope the neighborhood kids don't try anything stupid.
On Saturday, the fam' (thanks P Diddy for introducing that term to me) and I drove up to Redwoods National and State Park near the border between Oregon and California. Stayed at a hostel near there INSTEAD of camping. Oh well. We saw some pretty cool campsites that were situated right next to the river. We went to see the "Tree with a hold wide enough for a car to pass through" at Leggett. I walked through it and took pics of my dad driving through it. Had chinese food for lunch and we proceeded to the Redwoods. Had duck wings and duck tongue inside the car for snacks. It was a good thing I had my laptop with Mappoint with me because we got lost near the hostel due to bad directions. The hostel was nice. Looked right at the ocean with this little cove/beach in front. We went nearby and went to this "museum" place where you can ride a gondola amidst the trees and enjoy the view. I took pics near the huge Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox statues. Had a hot pot type thing for dinner where I contributed the Enoki mushrooms and some seafood. There was taro in it which I avoided wholeheartedly. Went hiking around in the bigger Redwood forest place where we got to look at the campsites and watch people go downstream on their little boats while fishing. Pretty cool. The campsite is called the Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park (Jedediah not Jebediah...not a sp...sp is that mark all those teachers make to show incorrect spelling. I used it here...dont know why). The river is the Smith river. On the way back, my Dad took the SUV kind of off-roading. It wasn't paved at least and we kept bumping up and down.
Had a lot of Darda Seafood in Milpitas last week. Good stuff. Knife Cut noodles are the best. Had tendon one day and tripe the next. YUMMM!!! The second time I bought and extra one for the next day. Champion Foods is right next door and they were closed when I approached. Just as I was about to leave though, the woman comes up and opens the door and asks if I want to buy anything. I was like,"Ok!" Got 2 duck tongues packs and a duck wing pack. Geez, this stuff is expensive. Total was a little under $20. Had no idea. Hope I wasn't being ripped off.
I'll have more later to try and catch up...
