May 30, 2005 - 9:21AM - Socal

I'm down in Socal with Emily and her sis visiting my parents. Went to Disneyland yesterday and going again today! :-P Will update after getting back on Tuesday.

May 25, 2005 - 12:10PM - Much more Peru pictures up!!!

Wow...not only are the pics from LA up but all the Peru pics are up as well (except for the ones from Margaret). I really should do something similar for the trips I took last year (China/Alaska/San Antonio). It'd be good to consolidate the San Antonio (second time)/Miami pics too.

May 24, 2005 - 5:10PM - LA/E3 2005 Site up!!!

Enjoy!!! I'll get captions on Day 2-4 in later. I'll also be removing the bad pics but after quite a few people asked to see pics, I thought it best to get them up ASAP.

May 24, 2005 - 12:47AM - Spark's/E3 Teaser Pictures

So last Wednesday, I went with LC to this new place at Bay Street called Sparks. They serve hot dogs but also garlic fries. Since, it was the night of the Star Wars: Episode III premiere, they were showing Episode V on the sweet TV they had on the wall.

They had a problem with me taking a picture because apparently people were taking pictures so that they could copy the concept or something horrible like that. Once I told the manager that it was for my website, he was really cool about it though.

My Lemon Chicken hot dog. Pretty good stuff. Not as flavorful as the stands in Taiwan but for a place thats clean (part of the flavor of a Taiwan night market hot dog must come from a dirty grill), this is pretty good. Price wise, I'd have have to go to Top Dog to compare it. Still, it's really close to where we live, so its infinitely more attractive. Do they validate? Hate how parking now costs money again. Garlic fries were pretty good too although not as garlicky as the ones at the Giant's stadium.

I've redone the Peru site so that all that image loading funkiness in IE isn't happening anymore. Enjoy!

So I just back from a 4 day weekend down in LA with Emily. We went to E3, The Sony Party, Getty Museum, Rodeo Drive, Zanzibar, Crustacean, Sushi Isshin, 24 Hr Korean, Mann Chinese Theatre, Hollywood Walk of Fame, Curry House, Ding Tai Fong, and Westin's Top Floor Restaurant

Here are teaser pics to get Chu off my case about posting pictures...Final Fantasy Chicks!

May 18, 2005 - 8:47AM - Pet Project/Moose's/Sunrise/Roy's

In my side pet project (which will be unveiled at some point), I spent almost an hour debugging a portion which ended up just being a misplaced line of code. Still a VERY critical piece of the puzzle was completed today and moving forward should be somewhat easier.

Went to Moose's 2 nights ago. Here's the Citysearch. Overall I liked the place but the service was REALLY slow. We had our appetizer at the 1.5 hr mark.

Pinot Noir Carneros from Kazmer & Blaise

Free Snapper Broth Shot...very interesting

Morel Mushroom Soup with thyme oil and parmesan crostini...it was alright but a little too watery.

Wild Mushroom and Ricotta Ravioli with sweet pea coulis and roasted cipollini

Berkshire Black Pork Loin with braised shank, ramps, favas, baby carrrots and caramelized daikon

Alaskan Halibut with peas, carrots, bacon and saffron shrimp sauce...bad focus...my bad

Pan Roasted Duck Breast with spring greens, lentils, bacon, garlic and red wine sauce

New Zealand Tai Snapper with artichokes, asparagus and basil broth

Niman Ranch Rib Eye Steak with fingerling potatoes "boulanger" and horseradish gremolata

Apricot Sherbet

Lemon Sherbet

Sunrise is really cool from the hotel room

Shrimp Fried Rice at Tu Lan.

Beef Salad

Imperial Spring Rolls

Went to Roy's for dinner. Here's the Citysearch. Yellow Fin Ahi Poketini "Wasabi Aioli, Avocado & Tobiko Caviar"...this was simply AMAZING. Sooooooo good.

Smoked Kahlua Pork & Cabbage Lumpia...really good.

Hawaiian Style Misoyaki Butterfish "Sizzling Soy Vinaigrette"...very much like Chilean Sea Bass.

Roy’s Original Hawaiian Blackened Island Ahi "Spicy Soy Mustard Butter"...I had a bit of Meg's Ahi...very good as well. Tender and juicy and everything.

Berry Tea from Germany

May 16, 2005 - 10:39AM - Sushi House/Emily's Masterpiece/Old pics from Microdrive

The White Laptop Duo…mine and Megan’s side by side.

Went to Sushi House last night...if you go to Sushi House, try to keep the party down to 2 people. Got there and was immediately seated and didn't have to wait unlike the 50 people in front of the door and in the waiting area. The Lion King Roll is the best!

I don’t think I’ve taken a picture of the moriawase from this angle…hehehe

Spicy scallop handroll (x4)….hehehe good stuff

Crispy roll…stick to the Lion King Roll next time. The salmon was quite dry.

I found my missing 1gb microdrive when I went back home after work. Turns out it was in my back packet...when I have I started putting things in my back pocket?!!! Hmm...

This was what Emily was working on the day we went to Cityscape. Spent hours on Angela's hair. But look at how professional it is! Emily's alter ego is hairdresser/stylist/fashion consultant. hehehehe...too bad Angela had a bum friend who didn't get their group's prom dinner reservations right and ended up going to Taco Bell for dinner. What a bummer...that hairdo deserved a better place! hehehehe

Yummy goodies at Café Finche…

Finger puppets at Ikea…better quality than the ones in Peru

Naughty dogs

Cool lambkins

A very nice print

3D brush strokes…it’s very cool because it’s a mass produced print but they were able to recreate the brush strokes.

This hammock chair was REALLY good

Hmmmm cinnamon buns

This amount of sugar was actual what the person had put on BEFORE Lih-Chern asked her to stop. If she hadn’t the entire bun probably would have been covered.

Filipino Yummy Food from the Office Depot Food Court. Got a mango drink there as well…

May 15, 2005 - 10:28AM - Argent Hotel/Cityscape Restaurant

Vending machine in the lobby of the Argent. It even has ipods!

Sunrise

It’s pretty awesome seeing the sun rise on the other side of the bay.

Interesting flower at the Marriott

After Emily took care of her sister’s makeup/hair for her prom (pictures to follow supposedly), Emily came up and we had dinner at Cityscape, the restaurant at the top of the Hilton. Review. Unfortunately, the fog rolled in and we were so high up that we were in the fog layer.

Yummy Lobster Bisque – “Cream of Maine Lobster Soup Scented with Cognac and Tarragon”...I've had lobster bisque a couple times already and this was the first to actually include lobster meat. Pretty good stuff...I need to learn how to make this. Emily really liked this and the desserts as well. Hehehe, look she's providing the professional white background! :-P

Grilled Angus Beef New York Steak – “12 oz. Cut with Oxtail Sauce and Carmelized Shallots” with Creamed Spinach. The creamed spinach was not as good as the one at House of Prime Rib. The steak was supposed to be Medium but I got between Rare and Medium Rare so I had it sent back. When it came back it was Medium but also with new sauce/spinach/shallots. So the service is definitely good.

Alaskan Halibut – “With Saffron-Fennel Sauce, Sweet Potato Puree and Crisp Onion Threads”

Because we got moved from one table to another due to a host mistake, Emily asked for and got us free desserts! For both of us! hehehe...here's the Berry Compote with this nice cream and interesting tower which was very tasty. Supposedly, it had Passion Fruit which I guess is the cream.

3 different Crème Brulees with Miniature Cookies…both of us liked this brulee that tasted like a citrus starburst

Cityscape Bar Scene

I really like this stained glass display right next to the elevator. I like the colors.

May 14, 2005 - 7:04AM - Day 6 and 7 of Peru Trip Up!!!

Hmmm...quite a few things...

Went to a new place (found by LC) with Margaret called Shan Dong. It had a lot of good reviews...went really because of the knife cut noodles. But ended up only being so so and definitely not a replacement for Darda in Milpitas. Also had dinner with Eric, Fred, and Allen at the Pho place that Margaret showed me. That amazing one on International with the bowls bigger than anything I've ever seen.

This Thursday was not such a great day for me. In the morning I forgot my id card so I couldn't take the bus in and had to go back home first...pick it up...and then do casual carpool (to be ontime). Then I lost my card reader (with the 1gb microdrive that I've had FOREVER in it). Still hope that somehow its just somewhere. Then when I left the Marriott (where this week's convention is at), I passed by the Metreon where they where having the SF premiere of Star Wars Episode 3. I saw the mayor and storm troopers and everything but of course, I didn't have my camera handy. Ach....and all this on Thursday the 12th. Yesterday was Friday the 13th but thankfully it was a good day!

I'm staying at the Argent Hotel in SF till Wednesday for this conference. When I checked in, the registration desk lady gave me a 11th floor room. When I went, it was a really interesting diagonal setup. Had an alright view (just above the parking structure across the street) but since the hotel has 36 floors I was a bit disappointed. She later called me down because she forgot to get my credit card for incidentals. While I was down there, I casually asked if I could get a room on a higher floor. After a bunch of typing...she said "Here! I found you a room on the 36th floor." The view is just incredibly from up there. Like I can see Union Square, a little bit of the Golden Gate, a little of Alcatraz, and the Bay Bridge.

Last night I went down to see Emily. Went to the Great Mall with her and her sis to obstensibly go shopping for prom shoes. I think we spent more time eating (went to Fujiya) and playing miniature golf at Putting Edge. Final Score: Andy (47), Emily (55), Angela (59).

My first room...it's the same furniture in the second though. But I also got another drawer.

Beef Teriyaki and Salmon

The Onion Ring strikes again!

Emily took a pretty awesome action pic of my playing mini golf...not posed or anything! hahaha

Here's Emily taking a shot...in my pic, you can see the path of the ball.

Angela got stuck behind the knights.

May 11, 2005 - 7:04AM - Day 5 of Peru Trip Up!!!

Done! Went to a Filipino place for lunch yesterday in the Office Depot Food Court called something Mango. Got both of the their chicken entree things. Good stuff although next time I should try the paella.

Had late night Korean with LC...got the soon doo boo. Hmmmmm...had a little bit of LC's Chap Chae...dang that's good stuff.

May 9, 2005 - 10:04PM - Day 4 of Peru Trip Up!!!

Yep...this one has pics of Saqsaywaman or "Sexy Woman" or "Sexai Whoa-man"!!! IE Users, remember to let it load the entire way before clicking on the links on the left. Click the link up top to access the pics.

Had lunch with Margaret at a Japanese cafe at the Ferry Building today...had Japanese Curry! Well it wasn't exactly Japanese curry (hmm...Curry House) but it was closer than anything I've ever gotten in the Financial District. In fact, it may be the only one that has Japanese curry as opposed to Indian curry. Didn't have my camera though! I'll try to remember next time.

Went to Ikea for dinner with Lih-Chern. Their Vegetable Beef soup is really good. Meatballs were good as usual although Lih-Chern noticed that there was no sprig of garnish and instead of 3 potatoes we were given 2 potatoes.

Almost went to a new place with Lih-Chern tonight. If we don't go to Church's tomorrow, it'll be this new place for sure. Kinda excited. On the way there today (it ended up being closed on Mondays...aargh), we went past Sui Sui K. It was still closed. That pretty much confirms it. Unless the owner is incredibly ill or something, Sui Sui K is closed. :-( We really did eat it out of business! So glad I went to it the night between Miami and Peru. Whew! hahahahaha...if it's still closed by the end of the month...I may create another site with all my Sui Sui K pictures to memorialize the "Restaurant where everyone wonders how it could possibly remain operating".

May 8, 2005 - 11:55PM - Day 2 and 3 Up!!!

Day 2 and 3 are now up...and that's enough for now. :-) Word of advice for IE users, let the entire site loadup (look at the progress bar at the bottom) before acessing the pictures. If you end up missing images, just try refreshing the site again...Firefox users don't need to worry since it continues to pull in pictures even after accessing a div that doesn't have all of its images loaded up. I'm using a preload scheme for now...I may end up changing it later.

May 8, 2005 - 2:17PM - Peru Trip Site Up!!!

Go here!!!

After a night and day's worth of work, the site is coming along. Right now only Day 1 is up but the rest will follow as time goes along. I'll make note on the main page whenever a day gets finished.

This cough/runny nose from my last night in Peru hasn't left me yet. Really annoying. I know its at its end but it sure is taking a long time. Thanks to Lih-Chern for her excellent Chicken/Clam soup! :-P

On Friday, I went to see Kingdom of Heaven with Emily and that's when we also went to Fresh Choice. It's a somewhat conscious decision to eat a bit healthier...thanks to a virtual lecture from my mom a few weeks ago (brought upon by the Miami pictures). Doing my best to keep the pounds I lost in Peru off. As I was transferring Desperate Housewives episodes from my laptop to Emily's, I thought about how absurdly geeky we must have looked inside the car with 2 laptops. hahahhaha...well anyways, not too much has happened recently and that's probably a good thing. The next few weeks will be quite crazy and hectic. I'll be staying in a hotel in SF for about a week due to a conference (really weird to be staying in a hotel only like 6.5 miles from where I live but you'd understand if you lived in the Bay Area. Then in a few weeks, I'll be down in LA for E3 (oh yeah!!!!....Sony Party here we come!). Then the week after that is Memorial Day weekend, so I'll be down in LA again! I'm going to have to finish the Peru thing ASAP if its going to be done before the month is over.

May 7, 2005 - 9:20AM - Rundown

Gomen nasai! No updates and no Peru album...well, at least I can report that all of the pictures have been uploaded. I'm conceptualized the Peru section and just need time to get it up. As Emily says, I just need to put it up little by little. Anyways, this week was just getting back in the swing of things. Many people commented about how tan I had gotten (even the lady at B&M Mei Sing, the Chinese place near work...she asked where exactly I had gone probably since I represent a good 1% of their business. hahahahaha jk). Anyways, since I've come back I've...

I really want to share all the pics from Peru...well I'm working on it.

May 3, 2005 - 7:08AM - Last days in Miami

Ok ok...I'm back in SF now and just trying to get back in the hang of things....I have about half of the 4GBs of pics I took in Peru uploaded...I have like a log of the first 4 days...so pretty much there is a lot of work to be done. Peru was simply amazing. So many experiences and all the people I met along the way...you'll see what I mean. You'll just have to bear with me cause I want to do it right and there is a LOT of stuff I want to put up.

On the plus side, I found that I neglected to post pics from my last days in Miami up...so here you go! :-P

Shrimp in Basil Sauce from Sushi Thai....sooooooo good over rice. Yum!

Esplanade Way...the 2nd night there

Zula

Zula Portabella Appetizer

Lamb Shank...ehhh...I think the one in SF Little Italy is a lot better

Chocolate Mint Cake...ehhhh

The Hilton Fountainebleau Lobby...a lot of movies were filmed there such as Goldfinger, Scarface and The Bodyguard. An episode of the Sopranos was filmed there too.

The taxi circle is all bright and stuff.

Pool Area

Fountain on Lincoln Ave. You can see the BR flag flying in the background

Sushi...Unagi Don...Dynamite = YUMMMMM

Went to the bar at the Hilton to celebrate the end of AAN

Lobster Bisque...good stuff...very similar to the one I had in San Antonio. Gosh...I forgot to write down the name of this restaurant. It was the bottom floor of one of the hotels. I'll have to find this out.

Lamb Rack...nice and tender...

Megan's Fish and Shrimp

Ocean Ave. The main street of South Beach

Dessert fudge...Megan and Anjee say this was the best that they had.

Vegetarian Combo

Versace Mansion again...That weekend was the World Cup Polo Match

Leslie...we decided to go here our last night because the previous night, the place looked really cool. Bad idea.

Really cool hotels from the boardwalk

Waiting for a taxi

View from Priscilla's suite...apparently, there were some indiscrete people on the balcony a few rooms down. Poor Priscilla.

Beautiful ocean view though!

The enormous kiddie pool octopus

Miami Beach Boardwalk

Left those sandals in Peru...looks like I have a giant shuffle next to me

View of the hotels from the beach

View from the pool

Oh i got a huge tan that day...looked like a raccoon because I had on my Oakleys

Fav pic of Scott and Megan water dancing to unheard music

At Leslies the last night...saw a man biking around with a snake....very weird

Somehow I must incorporate these kind of drapes in future home

Coconut Shrimp...was good

Ceviche...was good

Scott's Mahi Mahi...was very dry

Anjee's Pasta...looked good

My Salmon...looked and was small. A really pitiful portion...I can't believe they would charge $25 for it. Couldn't believe my eyes. Aargh...so frustrating that the last night ended up being one of the worst nights for food. Oh well.
