Over the two weeks I was in LA, I gained 7 pounds. At least 7 pounds. This is assuming I was at my heaviest (my weight cycles about 4 pounds), so I could have actually gained as much as 11. I'm sure some of it's water weight, because it's coming off pretty quickly. I'm kind of glad it happened, though, because I've learned something about myself while I've been at the gym:
I'm a huge dork.
Which isn't really something new, so it's not really something learned, but it's at least something reinforced. I came to this brilliant conclusion while perusing the magazine stacks they had, thinking about what to read while I spent some purgatory time on the treadmill. I passed by Us, People, Golf, and ESPN. I skipped National Geographic, weight loss magazines, and something about Seattle homes.
I finally settled on a publication called White Dwarf, which Wikipedia basically sums up as the source of all that is dorky (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Dwarf_(magazine)). I spent more time on the treadmill than I care to disclose reading about the new units in the new expansion of Warhammer 40k (which, if you don't know, is about as dorky as a board game can get). I'm not dorky enough to have played yet, but I'm dorky enough to kind of want to now.
If this is a preview of what's to come, then 2009 is going to be some dark times.
