Susan Richards - The Invisible Woman
Susan Storm Richards
The Invisible Woman
Who is she?
Sue is Johnny's sister, Reed's Wife,
Franklin's mommy, etc., etc., etc. She is older than
Johnny, and younger than Reed.
Initially, she didn't have much to do on the
team than be a nurturing, etc, traditional female
comic book character. She would often faint after
"overexerting" herself with one of her force fields.
Later, however, she became more independant,
abandoning the title "The Invisible Girl" in Issue
#284 for the more appropriate "The Invisible Woman."
Recently, when Reed died, she assumed lead-
ership of the team (in Issue #382). Since Reed
returned, the team's leadership has been in question,
though it was generally accepted that Reed would
resume leading, we often see Sue calling the shots.
What are her powers?
The Invisible Woman has two basic powers :
the power to make things invisible, and the power
to create invisible force fields. Lately, it has
been under speculation that her powers originate from
Hyperspace, and that she might be the strongest
member of the team.
As far as invisibility goes, she can make
herself, or just about anything else, invisible to
normal sight. The larger the object, of course, the
more strain it places upon her, and the shorter
amount of time she can keep it up. Some beings
have the means to see her through means other than
sight.
The Invisible Woman can create incredibly
strong force fields that can be used either
defensively or offensively. Like her powers of
invisiblity, the larger the force field, and the
more force it is deflecting, the more strain it
puts on her. She has often fainted after projecting
her force fields. She can make her force fields
pliable, or use them as "stairs" or a levetating
disk for transport (see Issues #359, #358 and
#236 respectively, for examples). She can use her
force power offensively by creating "force daggers"
(a relatively new implement) or a "force ram".
How many different haircuts has she had?
It's hard to tell. It seems like she changes
her hairstyle every issue or so. Instead of trying
to list descriptions, I'll list graphics :

How many different costumes has she had?
Unlike the rest of the group, who have only
had the blue costume with black gloves and the blue
costume with white gloves, Sue has had four different
costumes.
She has had the two costumes that the rest
of the group had, in addition to the somewhat
risque two piece that she introduced in Issue #371
(in an attempt to get Reed's attention), and the
new "more conservative" sleeveless with gloves
costume she introduced in Issue #387.
