Vandersteen Audio is located in Hanford, California, where it was founded in 1978 by Richard Vandersteen. Over the years their speakers have garnered the SoundStage Reviewer's Choice award, an Editor's Choice award from Stereophile, a Consumer Digest Best Buy and The Absolute Sound Affordable Speaker Award, among others. Design Principles

Stack of cabinets - a box for each driver, staggered for time alignment.
Minimal baffles - each enclosure is only as wide and high as its driver, with no extra fascia, which reduces early reflections and diffraction.
To minimize cabinet costs acoustically transparent grille cloth is wrapped around four dowel supports that do not cause any audible interference. The money not spent on labor-intensive furniture-quality wood veneer is invested into better quality components.
