Internships at RLA
Interning for RLA is a great way to acquire valuable legal experience and people skills! No previous legal experience is needed -- only a desire to learn!
Interns will be trained in California and Berkeley rent law. As interns become more familiar with the law, they may begin counseling clients as soon as they feel comfortable. Interns can also help organize public education events and perform public interest research.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Student at UC Berkeley
- Desire to learn and help the community
INTERN OBLIGATIONS:
- Attend a half-day training session
- Pass a written test on rent laws
- Hold 5 office hours per week
- Complete a project that contributes to RLA
- Write a brief paper about your experience (if interning for units)
WHAT INTERNS EARN:
- 2 to 4 units (5 office hours = 2 units; 2 hours per additional unit)
- Concrete knowledge of local and state rent laws
- Legal, counseling, and organizational experience
