Generation X, Apathetic? I wonder where that idea came from.
Actually, how could Generation X not be considered apathetic? We just got out,
or are still in, college. We ain't gotten a chance to do shit yet! Typical,
how typical of you old senile bastard boomers to think we haven't done
anything. All you guys had done by my age was die in 'Nam because you got
suckered into governmental games by LBJ & Nixon. Ohh, great, Woodstock you
say? Sorry, that just shows you know how to party, it's not an accomplishment.
Okay, I take that back, my friend Raiph just puked on me on his way to the
bathroom, and besides, I would have liked to have been there. Those days of
music and joy, all in the name of peace, even though you trashed the poor
field it was on and left it a bonafide trash heap. Funny how it's only one of
a few things that's recovered from your wretched reign over the earth.
Apathy. You had good music, that's why you weren't apathetic. Even in the '80s
we had at least the Violent Femmes, REM, etc. Now all we've got is fuckin'
Green Day and Dr. Dre. Wouldn't that make -you- apathetic, when you're looking
at Jimi, Janice and Lead Zeppland?
Bah! Artistic talent like that comes once in a century, whoever gets it loves
it as much as the rest of us but get the right to lay claim to it. It's
theirs, they're yours, we're stuck with our's. Alanis and 2Pac just don't do
it for me as much as Page, Diana Ross, Jr. Walker, etc. However, that is not,
does not, mean that free permission is given to think we won't do more than
you. Just watch.
We're bigger than you'll ever be: in size of number, but more...
what we've got in store.
Besides, what have you left us besides the prediction that we'll be the first
generation in, like, 50 years to have a worse lifestyle/standard of living
than our parents. Quit being so goddamned arrogant, your petty accomplishments
are no match for the Dark Side of The Force. Some world you're giving us.
Next you'll be complaining about the economy you left us while continuing to
drain it with your Social Security you ``forgot to reform."
Leave us alone, stop trying to define us according to your outdated and
prematurely obsolete world views. Generation X is wrong. The idea is wrong:
it's the elderly mind laboring to define something it doesn't understand,
namely its children. The idea and the definition of Generation X is -wrong-
It does not exist, and let us please stop seeing it in the media.
I know this is a lost cause, but that's why I don't care!
