Peirce was an empiricist; someone who believes that knowledge comes from science. This means that knowledge come from the scientific method of proving knowledge, so he believed in the method of science. This would seem to be the most reliable way to gain knowledge since we have all been taught that the most reliable knowledge comes from science and its experiments to prove things about our world. But, as discussed in my correspondence theory section, what we observe from life is not completely true since we, as human beings, are incapable of perfectly observing our world. So what we base all experiments on are approximations, so our answers from science are all approximations, so that they can never be completely true, we can only hope that the approximation is very close to the actual knowledge. So, it looks like none of the methods completely work. Go figure. |
