live your life

화요일 아친: last night, after a shower (earlier in the night than usual), i pushed on that snapping anteromedial knee tendon while flexing and extending my leg (left, post.op).  i did that for a little while, and the tendon stopped snapping.  wow!  this morning, i skateboarded with sooni but wore the small, velcro knee brace that 심사범님 shim sabuhmnim (master shim) loaned me (last year, i don’t know if he wants it back anymore) then biked to work.  i know i need to give my post.op leg more exercise because i really need to maintain strength in my quads.

[a little later] while browsing through my techcrunch.com rss feed on google reader, i noticed a post about how google reader launched a new feature that auto.translates your feeds into your preferred language.  however, i didn’t click on that link.  today, i saw another feed that was automatically added to my account, an actual, official google reader feed; and it had some announcement about this same feature: “official google reader blog: is your web truly world.wide?”  well, i clicked on it, and read about it.  then i tried it out.  yeah, i guess it works.  i wonder how many people will actually use it though.  i mean, i would think i would be someone more likely to use it because i’m so tied into korean culture and korean pop culture but am far from fluent in the korean language.  however, when i read articles about korean pop culture, i usually read it in korean because i feel like the information that is in korean is more up.to.date and because i want to challenge myself to get better at the korean language, you know?  an auto.translate feature is too much of a shortcut for me, right?  usually, i would prefer to chug through the original korean.language article and look up words in an online korean.english dictionary 한영 사전 hanyuhng sajuhn when necessary.  however, that’s a slow process that, i suppose, hinders me from getting news about korean pop culture as frequently as i did back when we had bronx’s junkyard, etc.  i mean; i can still get korean pop culture news from arirang tv’s showbiz extra and pops in seoul shows, and i do thanks to the local ktvn digital 36.2.  well, it is nice to imagine that we’re getting closer to the auto.translating technology of the star trek communicators, right?  heh heh… yeah, that will be the day, eh?  then the art of learning languages will be lost, huh?  of course, auto.translation of text is nothing new: babelfish and translate.google.co.kr (구글 번역 google buhnyuk [translate]) have been doing it for years.

[a little later] while typing out the title for yesterday’s blog entry “snapping anteromedial knee tendon,” i wondered if i needed to use any commas in between the adjective and quasi.adjective nouns; i googled a webpage: “using commas.”  i like the checklist it gives for this situation:

  • does the sentence make sense if the adjectives are written in reverse order?
  • does the sentence make sense if the adjectives are written with and between them?

if you answer yes to these questions, then the adjectives are coordinate and should be separated by a comma. here are some examples of coordinate and non-coordinate adjectives:

  • he was a difficult, stubborn child. (coordinate)
  • they lived in a white frame house. (non-coordinate)
  • she often wore a gray wool shawl. (non-coordinate)
  • your cousin has an easy, happy smile. (coordinate)
  • the 1) relentless, 2) powerful 3) summer sun beat down on them. (1-2 are coordinate; 2-3 are non-coordinate.)
  • the 1) relentless, 2) powerful, 3) oppressive sun beat down on them. (both 1-2 and 2-3 are coordinate.)

a very informative web page…  grammar resources like these are dope.  they’re the bomb.

funny, just now on my google news, i spotted an article coming from the taiwan news feed that is a bloomberg feed on california’s proposition 8: “state bans on gay weddings seem unconstitution-ish.”  i simply find it funny that i’m reading google news in america and finding an article that went from america to taiwan and then back to america, you know?

wow, just now on google news, i read that will smith is producing a remake of the karate kid for his son to star in: “will smith producing ‘karate kid’ remake for son.”  would that sentence be more grammatically correct if i had said “i read that will smith is producing a remake of the karate kid for his son in which to star?”  i know you’re not supposed to end a sentence with a preposition.  i didn’t realise (or forgot) that will smith’s son is named jaden.  that’s a popular name these days.  what’s with this google news article’s coming from zap2it.com?!  what the heck is zap2it.com?!  that’s one strange thing about google news is that you get all sorts of random sources.  in general, i like will smith.  i think he’s one of the better role models in hollywood and in the hip.hop music scene.

[later] 오후: i really like will smith’s song “lost and found.”  recently, a popular song on the radio reminds me of that old song:

“live your life”
- t.i. featuring rihanna
lyrics from http://blacksunshine.tistory.com/search/live%20your%20life and http://lyricwiki.org/T.I.:Live_Your_Life

[t.i.]
ay, this a special what’s happenin’ to all my, all my soldiers over there in iraq
everybody right here, what you need to do is to be thankful for the life you got, you know what i’m sayin’
stop lookin’ at what you ain’t got, start bein’ thankful for what you do got
let’s give it to ‘em, baby girl

[rihanna]
you’re gonna be a shining star
with fancy clothes and fancy cars
and then you see, you’re gonna go far
’cause everyone knows who you are (rihanna, let’s get it)
so live your life (hey) ay-ay-ay
you steady chasin’ that paper
just live your life (oh) ay-ay-ay
ain’t got no time for no haters
just live your life (hey) ay-ay-ay
no telling where it’ll take ya
just live your life (oh) ay-ay-ay)
cause i’m a paper chaser
just livin’ my life (ay), my life (oh), my life (ay), my life (oh)
just livin’ my life (ay), my life (oh), my life (ay), my life (oh)
just livin’ my life

[t.i.]
nevermind what haters say, ignore ‘em ’til they fade away
amazing they ungrateful after all the game i gave away
safe to say, i paved the way for you cats to get paid today
you still be wastin’ days away now had i never saved the day
consider them my protégé, homage i think they should pay
instead of being gracious, they violate in a major way
i never been a hater, still i love ‘em in a crazy way
some say they sold the yay, and no, they couldn’t get work on labor day
it ain’t that black or white, it has an area the shade of gray
i’m west side anyway, even if i left today and stayed away
some move away to make a way, not move away ’cause they afraid
i brought back to the hood, and all you ever did was take away
i pray for patience but they make me wanna melt they face away
like i once made ‘em spray, now i could make them put the k’s away
been thuggin’ all my life, can’t say i don’t deserve to take a break
you rather see me catch a case, then watch my future fade away

[rihanna]
you’re gonna be a shining star
with fancy clothes and fancy cars
and then you see, you’re gonna go far
’cause everyone knows who you are
so live your life (hey) ay-ay-ay
you steady chasin’ that paper
just live your life (oh) ay-ay-ay
ain’t got no time for no haters
just live your life (hey) ay-ay-ay
no telling where it’ll take ya
just live your life (oh) ay-ay-ay
cause i’m a paper chaser
just livin’ my life (ay), my life (oh), my life (ay), my life (oh)
just livin’ my life (ay), my life (oh), my life (ay), my life (oh)
just livin’ my life

[t.i.]
i’m the opposite of moderate, immaculately polished with
the spirit of a hustler and the swagga of a college kid
allergic to the counterfeit, impartial to the politics
articulate but still’d grab a nigga by the collar quick
whoever havin’ problems with they record sales, just holla tip
if that don’t work and all else fails, then turn around and follow tip
i got love for the game, but ay, i’m not in love with all of it
could do without the fame, and rappers nowadays are comical
the hootin’ and the hollerin,’ back and forth with the arguin’
“where you from, who you know, what you makin,’ what kind of car you in?”
seems as though you lost sight of what’s important when depositin’
them checks into ya bank account, and you’ve up out of poverty
your values is in disarrayed, prioritizin’ horribly
unhappy with the riches ’cause you’re piss-poor morally
ignorin’ all prior advice and forewarnin’
and we mighty full of ourselves all of a sudden, aren’t we?

[rihanna]
you’re gonna be a shining star
with fancy clothes and fancy cars
and then you see, you’re gonna go far
’cause everyone knows who you are
so live your life (hey) ay-ay-ay
you steady chasin’ that paper
just live your life (oh) ay-ay-ay
ain’t got no time for no haters
just live your life (hey) ay-ay-ay
no telling where it’ll take ya
just live your life (oh) ay-ay-ay
cause i’m a paper chaser
just livin’ my life (ay), my life (oh), my life (ay), my life (oh)
just livin’ my life (ay), my life (oh), my life (ay), my life (oh)

got everybody watchin’ what i do
come walk in my shoes
and see the way i’m livin,’ if you really want to
got my mind on my money, and i’m not goin’ away

so keep on gettin’ your paper, and keep on climbin’
and look in the mirror, and keep on shinin’
’til the game end, ’til the clock stop
we gon’ post up on the top spot
livin’ the life, my life
in a brand new city, got my whole team wit’ me
the life, my life, i do what i wanna do
i’m livin’ my life, my life, and i will never lose
i’m livin’ my life, my life, and i’m not stopping

so live your life

yeah, i like that song a lot; and it’s not just because it samples o.zone’s “dragostea din tei” (the famous romanian.langauge “mayayahi” song).  yeah, it reminds me a bit of will smith’s “lost and found” because of the line: “i got love for the game; but ay, i’m not in love with all of it.”  i like that.  [later] that’s how i would say i feel about life in this world in general, you know?  i think this song, advertantly or inadvertantly, describes “being in the world but not of the world” (to venture into speaking christianese) and “living a purpose.driven life” (to go all out with speaking christianese).
