Meeting Results

   Posted by: Thain   in Page

Hello BookWorlders,

I know the meeting wasn’t quite a Round Table… HOWEVER, I’m pleased to inform you
the results of last night’s meeting. With the help of everyone who came to the
meeting, especially with the good co-founders, Dmitriy and Andrey, and your
Commander, Joseph, we have reached many goals:

First, tentative classes for next semester:
Radhika – Post-Apocalyptic
Christopher – Intro to Fantasy
Brian – Wheel of Time or Dune
Rebecca – How to Survive the Nuclear Apocalypse
Misty George – Fairy Tales: Disney vs. Folklore
Albert – History of Middle-Earth
Zach – Reading Comics
Joey – Harry Potter and the Chamber of Analysis
John – Dark Fantasy

Second, the fellow people who are up for assisting:
Dana – if around, willing to guest lecture in a variety of DeCals
Claire – willing to help with random Bookworlds stuff
Alice – willing to help with facilitating any DeCals
Vanessa – helping Misty with her DeCal
Ramsina – most definitely facilitating Harry Potter

Third, the officers in training now for the Spring semester: (except for me)
Thain: Vanessa
Commander: Zach
Ranger: Misty
Keeper of the Scrolls: Christopher
Chief of Propaganda: Claire
Webmistress: Vanessa

*Officers will be meeting up with me to “train”. But please look at our charter on
what your role will be. Chief of Propaganda is still new but Claire and I will be
sorting that out, and as well as updating the charter. We’ll have another meeting to
vote on the revision of the charter.

The goal facilitators must be working on now:
1. Get the syllabus together**
2. Find co-facilitators
3. Find a Faculty Sponsor**
4. Know the steps on making a DeCal (& the paper involved):
http://www.decal.org/start-a-course/
5. Know the Department Deadlines: http://slc.berkeley.edu/ucftr/decalstartup.htm

** If you have already done the syllabus, great! I’ve attached an excel file of past
classes and info on the classes as well as who sponsored it. The list isn’t fully
updated through this semester but I found it stored in this Thain Yahoo Email.
If you found a class on the excel file and you don’t see a faculty sponsor, go to
DeCal.org > COURSES > then search by semester > find the class > you should see a
sponsor name on the DeCal’s page. This DeCal site also allow you to look at the
attached syllabus as well from past BookWorlds classes.

* * * We have a Keeper of Scrolls issue so the syllabus and class materials aren’t
ready to be emailed or sent to you yet but we’re currently working on that. We’ll
keep you updated! I’ll be emailing facilitators a generic syllabus for BookWorlds
once I find it. :P … I’m doing the best as I can during the library issue…

For those who want to help out:
1. Email the facilitators in the first portion of list and let them know!

For those who need help with anything else:
1. Email me (vvun08 at berkeley dot edu)

So good luck everyone!! We’ll soon have another BookWorlds meeting to make sure that
you’re on track!!

Sincerely,
Thain&WM Vanessa

October 8 Meeting

   Posted by: Thain   in Page

Greetings ladies and gentlemen,

This is a friendly reminder that our meeting is this Thursday, October 8 at 6PM in 189 Dwinelle. If you are a facilitator for a BookWorld’s DeCal, please send out an email of reminder if you haven’t already. Please encourage them to go! I’d love to see new faces and ones that are interested in facilitating our awesome courses and continuing BookWorlds.

Something new–

I will propose and present new positions in BookWorlds this Thursday. Such positions are suggested by co-founder Dmitriy. Here are some proposals:
- Chief of Propaganda (in charge of making flyers & getting a team for tabling)
- Under the supervision of the Chief of Propaganda, a Creative Officer (to display/make comic strips [or any other projects] to refer to BookWorld’s material)
- Historian (in charge of taking photos to document BookWorlds’ history and uploading them onto our website)
- Under the supervision of the Thain & Commander:
Relations Officer (to go to ASUC board meetings, to make friends with other clubs)

If we get lots of HP fans for us to host Quidditch games, or any other book worlds/unusual games we can do… ;)
- Under the supervision of the Ranger, an Athletic Director (to reserve areas and promote the event with the Chief of Propaganda)

Please invite friends! The more, the merrier.

We will start at 6:00PM, regardless of the Berkeley time.

Sincerely,
Thain&WM Vanessa

The Website Update

   Posted by: Thain   in News

While I really should enjoy the summer (I really am though — I’m going Disneyland in 3 days!), I have been working on this website here and there. It took a little bit of time to learn how stuff works, but now I think I’m an expert. ;)

Things that are new:

- The list of upcoming Fall 2009 DeCals are up under “Classes” (but details on it will be up as soon as DeCal.org gets facilitators to update their class page).
- There is only one album in “Photos”.
- The “Downloads” page has a few documents that can be downloaded from the Spring 2009 DeCals.
- We now have a “Contact Us” page for people to send us an email if they want to join or send us comments.
- We also now have a Poll. Vote if you dare.
- If you are an officer at BookWorlds, you have an account, allowing you to make updates/posts and upload photos & documents onto the website.

    Needs:

    - Pictures – If you have pictures for BookWorlds, please email them to me at vvun08 at berkeley dot edu.
    - Past documents – I’ll be looking for the Keeper of Scrolls for past documents.
    - BookWorlds history/records

Now, I am done for now. Time to relax!

      Hello World!

         Posted by: Webmaster   in News

The new BookWorlds website is still going through a LOT of construction right now, but too bad I can’t make the website into a ninja so nobody can see it yet! Either ways, expect the website to finish before the Fall semester starts.

      I will be updating:
Upcoming Fall 2009 DeCal Classes (Classes)
      Past photos (Photos)
Downloading manager for class syllabi and etc. (Downloads)
      BookWorlds history (About)
      The BookWorlds Logo
      and many many more…

If you have any suggestions, please comment! You can make an account on this site… but I’m not sure if it’s working just yet. If not, email at BookWorldsThain at yahoo dot com.
