constructivism doesn't just mean "let's build communities"; that's more akin to liberalism. rather, constructivism says that both of these theories rely on static notions of the status quo that ought to be rejected, and argue for the importance of establishing norms and ideology as true agents of change in the global arena. this is a gross over-simplification, but just name-dropping whatever you learned in PS 5 or whatever it is now doesn't really make your argument any stronger.

Great article! I wrote an article as well, and it was fairly similar, but no one would publish it because they said that many students on campus don't feel that what was said by Saleem and Shoebat was racist, so my article was clearly one-sided. Either way, I'm really happy that something in response to this crazy event was published. Having known a fair amount about the two speakers prior to the event, I was outraged when I saw the posters announcing that they were coming to our campus. I was one of those who felt like tearing down every poster I saw, but realized that it wouldn't be a fruitful act in the end. Then when I heard Shoebat call for the deportation and interrogation of all Muslims coming into the US or already living here, regardless of citizenship status, I regretted my decision not to tear their posters down. I feel almost complicit in allowing them to promote that kind of hate at Cal.
