This course will provide an overview of the bridges Multicultural Resource Center, its history, and the relevant issues affecting the multicultural community on and off campus. Interns will engage in work that pertains to the bridges’ mission, which focus includes increasing the number of marginalized students in higher education, the retention of college students already in Berkeley, and providing support for the greater multicultural community.
Interns will complete leadership activities, tours, student panels, community building, collaborative events, and outreach training. Interns will develop and support bridges Directors in organizing and executing projects and events throughout the Fall 2011 semester. Weekly Intern Meetings will consist of class discussions, professional and personal development workshops, project updates, and working meetings. At the end of the course, interns should have a solid understanding of the multicultural community on the Cal campus, resources available to them, and leadership skills that should serve them in their personal and academic/ professional careers.
