bridges Intern / Volunteer Program

UC Berkeley students have the opportunity to do student-initiated outreach and retention work on and off campus. The intern and volunteer program provides a structured space for students to assess the educational pipeline and develop an analysis about systematic inequality. (Students also have the option to recieve academic credit - Ethnic Studies 97/197)

Purpose of Internship:
bridges is looking for enthusiastic and innovative interns to help coordinate core projects and to help establish new ones. This internship program has the following goals:

Areas where hours can be completed:
1. Attendance at any/all bridges sponsored events
2. Office Hours
3. Becoming an assistant in any bridges committee
4. bridges Meetings, Mondays, 7pm, 242 Chavez
5. Mandatory intern meetings, Thursdays, 7pm bridges office

Logistics:

Grading Policy: Satisfactory completion of the above requirements will result in a passing grade. All missed hours should be discussed with the internship program coordinator ASAP.

Hours required per semester:
1 unit…………………………..45 hours/semester
2 units………………………….90 hours/semester
3 units…………………………..135 hours/semester

Week 1 (September 14th): Introductions (mandatory for all directors)
Week 2 (September 21st): History of bridges
Week 3 (September 28th): Outreach Training
Week 4 (October 5th): One Week Preparation Meeting
Week 5 (October 12th): One Week Community Dinner and Photo
Week 6 (October 19th): Students of Color Conference Worknight
Week 7 (October 26th): Prop 209 Training
Week 8 (November 2nd): University Power Structure
Week 9 (November 9th): Multicultural Organizing Training
Week 10 (November 16th): Intern Run Meeting - Allies Meeting
Week 11 (November 23rd): TBA
Week 12 (November 30th): Closing and Evaluations
Week 13 (December 7th): Final hours are DUE
