Chicanos/Latinos in Health Education

Internship Program Spring 2012

The CHE internship program is designed for CHE members to further deepen their involvement with the organization. The internship allows students to brief themselves on how CHE is run, hence giving them a better understanding of officers’ duties and expectations. Similarly, the internship promotes the development of leadership skills including organizational skills, time management and public speaking skills. Ultimately, this program aims at maintaining CHE’s strong working and supportive community among interns, officers and members.

CHE Interns’ Guidelines

  • Must take CHE for at least 1 unit (refer to the requirements for Units).
  • Must attend all General and Business meetings, unless there is a conflict in which it must be approved by the Co-Chairs.
  • Must turn in an application and submit it by the deadline unless otherwise consented from the Co-Chairs.
  • Intern positions are one-semester positions; students have the opportunity to run again for any position they have not held in forthcoming semesters.

 

CHE Interns’ Duties

  • Must be able to attend all General and Business Meetings unless they are excused by the Intern officer, who must be informed no later than a day before.
  • Must attend a mandatory monthly Intern meeting with the Interns’ Leader, (Historian) These meetings allow interns to provide feedback, check on their status, assign duties and provide a space for interaction amongst interns.
  • Will work with one another in order to design, plan and execute Health Presentations which will be then offered to the community.
  • Interns will be active in most of CHE activities and complete their unit requirements
  • Interns will help officers with their events and be given duties throughout the semester.

CHE Officer Descriptions

•Please read the officers’ duties in order to determine what position you would like to contribute to. The bold headers next to each position indicate the events or activities that you will be expected to take part in.

 

Chairs : Organizing and Overseeing Events

1. Responsible for communicating with the board of directors in order to compile an agenda so that the meetings are ordered.

2. Shall facilitate CHE Meetings.

3. Will take on responsibility of overseeing the administrative functions of the organization.

4. Will be responsible for planning and contacting speakers for General Meetings

5. Shall coordinate CHE events (e.g. health fairs, conferences, community outreach, etc.).

6. Shall organize, update and maintain a list of professional contacts obtained during the year for successors.

 

Secretary : Maintaining records of minutes, members and units

1. Attend all club meetings and manage attendance.

2. Compose the official minutes of all club meetings and keep them on file.

3. Produce a club membership directory.

4. Shall be the CHE Unit Coordinator and shall maintain contact with the CHE faculty advisor.

5. Shall be the CHE Unit Coordinator and will maintain contact with the CHE faculty advisor.

 

Fundraising : Organize CHE Fundraising Events

1. Responsible for organizing fundraising events.

2. Shall encourage participation of members and may assign duties/work shifts to CHE members who sign up for an event in order to insure an organized and successful fundraising event.

3. Shall be responsible for requesting donations for CHE events.

 

Networking : Contribute to the organization of MIH and Socials

1. Shall update and maintain contact information for the other CHE chapters in California as well as update other CHE chapters once per semester about Berkeley CHE events.

2. Will serve as the main contact and schedule meetings with Baccho (Stanford, UCB and UCD CHEs at DDLMs).

3. Will facilitate networking with other UCB organizations (both student and professional).

4. Coordinate events with other organizations (e.g. socials, meetings, conferences).

5. Will serve alongside Public Relations as the lead coordinators of the Minorities in Health Conference in the Spring Semester.

 

Historian : Keep records of events and working with website

1. Act as primary coordinator for CHE interns.

2. Shall maintain and update the CHE website.

3. Shall document events through media.

4. Shall create a scrapbook of all CHE events for the Fall and Spring semester so that it may be presented at each end of the semester banquet.

5. Shall maintain and update alumni contacts

6. Shall coordinate CHE banquets.

 

Publicity : Design Flyers, Order CHE gear and Foster Publicity of CHE Events

1. Shall publicize all CHE events.

2. Shall design publicity materials for CHE events (e.g. flyers, brochures).

3. Shall coordinate tabling with members and Board of Directors.

4. Shall maintain the CHE Sproul Board.

5. Will forward weekly reminder emails to CHE members.

6. Responsible for acquiring a design for t-shirts and ordering t-shirts.

 

Public Relations : Contribute to MIH Planning and Put on AJUAS

1. Shall facilitate the interaction between CHE and the broader communities (e.g. RAZA, the city of Berkeley, and the Berkeley campus).

2. Shall serve as the CHE representative of the Student Health Advisor Committee.

3. Must participate actively in RAZA caucus by communicating health concerns of the Raza community, and by participating in relevant Raza community events.

4. Will serve, alongside Networking, as the lead coordinators for the Minorities in Health Conference.

5. Shall serve as the community outreach coordinator for community service events (e.g Health presentations, AJUA, Breast Cancer Walk, Semana Binancional).

 

Treasurer: Work on budgets, process reimbursements and record expenditures

1. Shall prepare and submit budget for approval by the executive committee.

2. Will develop and execute financial policies, procedures and audits.

3. Must collect member dues and provide a comprehensive report of financial standing.

4. Shall maintain accurate record of all club financial transactions.

5. Must collect receipts and submit paperwork for reimbursements.

6. Must allocate a budget to meet the financial necessities of each Board of Director.

7. Shall prepare and present monthly financial reports and a midyear report.

8. Shall apply for grants to fund events.

9. Must reconcile deposits and expenditures.

  1. Must transfer all records and funds in their possession to the elected successors.
  2. Must submit reimbursements and receipts no later than two weeks from the time it has been received.
