General Info

The 16th Annual UC Berkeley Chinese Martial Arts Tournament (CMAT16) will be held on Saturday, April 5th, 2008 at Haas Pavilion on the UC Berkeley Campus. For directions and housing information, check out our Venue page. A draft schedule is now available. Please remember the schedule is subject to change without notice.

  • Waitlist Processed (2008.03.30) If you were on the wait list and have not been contacted by the registration staff, we were unable to accomodate you this year.
  • Register for Li Qiang's Wushu Workshop (2008.03.28) Li Qiang's Wushu workshop is filling up fast, reserve your spot before March 31st; space is limited to 12 persons per class! Sign up!
  • Preliminary Event Schedule (2008.03.27) A draft of this year's event schedule is now available. Please keep in mind that this is only a draft and events may shift as needed during the tournament. The height of each event is representative of how long we expect it to take relative to other events.
  • Reminder Regarding Traditional Weapons Specifications (2008.03.12) The staff would like to remind competitors to check that their weapons meet specifications, especially those competing with a straightsword (jian), broadsword (dao), or southern broadsword (nan dao). When competing in a traditional event, these weapons must be able to support its own weight when rested point down on the ground. Refer to the tournament rules for more information.
  • Shout Deadline Extended (2008.03.09) The deadline to purchase a shout out has been extended until March 21st. Place your order now!
  • Registration Has Closed (2008.03.09) We have reached the competitor cap for this year's tournament. Registrations will no longer be accepted after 11:59pm on March 9th, 2008.
  • Registration Filling Fast (2008.03.07) We are quickly reaching our competitor cap. Submit your registration ASAP. Registration forms will be handled in the order they are received. Once the competitor cap is reached, registration for this year will be closed.

  • Li Qiang Wushu Workshop (2008.03.02) Former Beijing Wushu Team member and China National Dao, Gun, Shuang Dao, Nan Quan champion Li Qiang will be hosting a wushu workshop on April 2, 3 & 4 of 2008.   • Registration Delays (2008.02.16) The CMAT16 staff apologizes for the delay in opening registration. Because of requirements and processes set in place at the University Sports Department, we have had to change our plans multiple times in the last few months. We are planning to open registration as soon as the Department has approved the latest proposed payment process. Thank you for your patience.

FAQs

  1. Why did competitor X place above Y even though X's average was lower?

    A competitor's final score is not just the average of the five given scores. A competitor's merited score is the average of the middle three of the five scoring judges. The final score is the merited score minus any applicable deductions. When two competitors have the same final score, the competitor whose mean value of the two invalid scores (high and low that were dropped) is closer to the value of their final score will be placed higher. Refer to the rules regarding scoring for details.
