Update: 11 March, 2009

Hello all!

Photos from Bowling Night and the First General Meeting are up now! We are currently gathering photos to add from the Photo Safari Event last Saturday! Thanks to all members that came to show some spirit! It was lots of fun, especially the random dancing. Anyways, the events of this week are posted below. Also, to active members, please remember to send your resumes to either of our professional liaisons Helen Chow or Candice Avanes by Friday March 20, 2009 if you would like to be in our resume book.

***IM Basketball [2!!!!!!! Sociability Points]
We are going up against our brothers and sisters in ASCE this week, and we need all the help we can get.  We are giving you two points for coming, so if you are free, come be our 6th man!  Try not to cheer for ASCE though; I know many of you have friends on their team.  Act as if they kicked your dog under a truck.
Sunday, March 8 @ 8:15p, RSF Fieldhouse

***DPR Fieldtrip [3 Practicality Points]
The sign-up sheets are full at the moment, and we will let you know if spots open up.  Those who signed up already will receieve more information about the event.
Thursday, March 12

***IM Soccer [1 Sociability Points]
Chi Epsilon is taking on the "Ostriches" this week.  A google image search returned this: http://a4.vox.com/6a00c225257b9bf21900e398d55b1c0002-500pi.  So this should be fun.
Thursday, March 12 @ 8:15p, RSF Gold Gym

***BBQ/Bike Ride By the Bay [5 Sociability Points]
We will be heading down to Shorebird Park this upcoming Saturday for some BBQ fun.  The weather should be good, so come enjoy our food and games and watch all the baby squirrles play.  For those who like a relaxing springtime bike ride, we will be riding along the San Francisco Bay Trail afterwards, so bring your bike if you are interested.  If you want to bike with us but do not have a bike here, you can check one out from the Bike-Share program on Friday.  It's three dollars for borrowing a bike for the weekend, but you will be reimbursed.  If you do not want to bike, that's fine; we will have rides to and from the park.  Those of you who are driving or getting a ride will meet at 10:15 at HMC. Sign-ups are up on facebook. Those of us who are biking, we will be meeting up at Hearst Mining Circle at 10am.  You are to show up there with a bike ready (and preferably a helmet, too).  You can borrow a bike at lower sproul on Friday between 11am to 1pm.  Know that you must have a receipt for us to reimberse you. <--VERY IMPORTANT!!

***Ultimate frisbee with ASCE this Friday at 4 PM at Memorial Glade. Afterwards, there's a Rock Climbing social, and members as well as pledges are all invited!  We will be meeting at Hearst Mining Circle at 5:20 PM.  Since this is not a pledge social, pledges will have to pay (not covered by XE).  We will be heading to Berkeley Iron Works, and the event should be around $30.  Pledges will be awarded 5 sociability points for going.

***UPCOMING FIELD TRIP
Friday, March 20th at 1pm to the MWH office.  The field trip will be an office tour, so students will get to know MWH more and see the working atmosphere in an environmental firm.  The sign up sheet will be posted in front of the ASCE/XE office door. There will be a limit of ten people for this field trip.  Transportation will be by BART.  Helen will send out an email to those attending with more details next week. More information about MWH can be found at http://www.mwhglobal.com/.

NOTE TO PLEDGES: there is only one more fieldtrip after this one, so be sure to sign up if you need practicality points.

Update: 03 March, 2009

Hello all! Below are the list of events for the week! To pledges, please plan to attend the Photo Safari this weekend! It's a mandatory event! Most of the officers also will be there! It'll be loads of fun! Also, here are some updates about this semester's pledge project. There are two pledge projects this semester.  The main project will be assisting the department with Cal Day festivities, such as helping make lunch for prospective freshman or interacting with visitors at Davis Hall.  If you cannot attend Cal Day on April 18 (for example, Mid-Pac is that weekend), the alternative is setting up a recycling program. This will entail meeting with Sarah to learn about the project and coordinating with the recycling group on campus to get recycling bins in the correct places.  Please email Sarah at sklug@berkeley.edu by March 6th if you are interested in doing the alternate project. There are only 5 slots for this, so email soon. Priority will be given to people who cannot attend Cal Day.  Reminder: PARTICIPATION IN THE PLEDGE PROJECT IS REQUIRED!

***Resume Workshop [2 Practicality Points]
ASCE is hosting a panel of young professionals to discuss resume strategies. They will stay around after the presentation, and will be happy to give you personal suggestions (don't be scared to talk to them; they want you to succeed).  If you want to have a sparkling resume for the career fair, this is a must!  And DO NOT forget to bring your resume!
Thursday, March 5 @ 5p, 502 Davis

***Photo Safari [Mandatory]
Break out your running shoes and your knowledge of campus trivia for one of the semester's most entertaining events, Photo Safari! You will be receiving an email shortly with more information on the event. Note that this event is mandatory, so please let your marshals know if you cannot attend.
Saturday, March 7 @ 10a, Campanile

Congratulation to the Chi Epsilon soccer team for 3-2 victory over Action Jackson! This week, they will be trying to knock off Killer Wombat, who are unbeaten so far, so let's give them our support!

**Tutoring Room [1 Scholarship Point per day]
Tutoring is THE spot to be if you are free on Mondays and Thursdays from 2-5pm. Drop by to study or to finish up some homework. It's also a great place to meet officers, members and your fellow pledges. You'll also have a chance to show off your vast CE knowledge by tutoring and helping others. Food and drinks will be provided.
Mondays 2-5pm, 539 Davis
Thursday 2-5pm, 406 Davis
PLEASE NOTE THE DIFFERENT ROOMS!

**Bowling Night [5 Sociability Points]
One of everyone's favorite social events is this week: Bowling!!! Come show off how much of your Wii Bowling skills translate to actual bowling!  A facebook event has been sent out, so please let us know as soon as possible if you want to go, so we can arrange rides.  If your RSVP isn't "Attending," we can't promise we will have enough car space for you.  We would also love you if you can drive your peers down to Albany Bowl (which isn't to long a drive).  Lastly, for those of you who didn't get an invite on facebook, it is *probably* because we couldn't find you, not because we don't like you, so let us know so we can send you invites to future events.
Meet Tuesday at 8:30 pm, Hearst Mining Circle

**General Meeting #1 [MANDATORY!!!]
The first general meeting of the semester is on Thursday. We will have games and delicious food, all topped off with a great guest speaker from Blach Construction, who will be discussing BIM (Building Information Modeling).
