Small Group Auditions

UC Men's Octet, California Golden Overtones, Noteworthy, Cal Jazz Choir, Perfect Fifth, and BareStage all hold auditions at varying points during the year. Please refer to each group's individual website for more details or you can contact the group managers with any questions.

UC Alumni Chorus Auditions

The majority of UCAC members must be affiliated with the University as an alumnus of Berkeley or another UC campus, a Berkeley faculty or staff member, or a UC graduate student. There is a provision that allows a small number of "non-affiliates".

We audition potential new members twice a year, in August and early January. To schedule an audition, please email ucac-audition@ucchoral.berkeley.edu

Chorale Auditions

At the beginning of each semester, the UC Men's Chorale and the UC Women's Chorale hold auditions. Please review the following instructions to schedule an audition.

What to expect and what you need to prepare

Auditions are held in the Basement of Cesar Chavez.

1. You will be asked about your general musical background, training and experience (including, but not limited to vocal performance).

2. You will be tested on your vocal range as well as your ear (such as with tonal memory exercises).

3. You may be asked to do a line or two of sight singing.

4. Finally, please have an excerpt from a solo song or ensemble piece prepared to sing in your audition.

Instructions to schedule an audition

1. Go to the Google Calendar website.

2. Log on with username "UCCEAuditions" and password "AudSpr12". (Be sure to log out if you have not done so already.)

3. There will be 15 minute blocks of time displayed. Select one and click "edit event details>>". Change the title of the event ("Open Men's/Women's Chorale") to your name. Please also enter your phone number, and e-mail. Please enter all three pieces of information in case we need to reach you. (See example)

4. The blocks of time that already have names are reserved. Please do not alter their reservation.

5. Please do not abuse this system. We monitor this calendar regularly.

6. To cancel your appointment, if more than 24 hours in advance, simply delete your name from the calendar. If less than 24 hours, please call (510) 642-3880 and send an e-mail to our director Mark Sumner at msumner@ucchoral.berkeley.edu.

Auditions begin on January 16, 2012 and are held on weekdays until January 25, 2012. If no times are listed on the google calendar that fit with your schedule please email msumner@ucchoral.berkeley.edu to arrange an audition time directly.

Women's Chorale Auditions are listed in blue and Men's Chorale Auditions are listed in gold.
