Extra Comments:

On the contest advertising, be sure to include the current RF logo...

Also, the current RF would like to be involved in the decision about which final design to choose, so I suggest that you invite them to a meeting where they can provide input on the designs...

Description

There is widespread agreement that we should create a new logo for the Resident Faculty program. The current font is not very attractive, and the house icon looks totally different than a residential hall. The Resident Faculty have suggested that we conduct a contest in which students submit ideas for a new logo and then the Marketing Team selects the best idea(s) and creates a new logo based on that (still in accordance with our AS Marketing Guidelines, of course).

This requires:
A quartersheet announcement to go to residents in Units 1 and 2; and
A larger postersize announcement to place on the RF bulletin boards and on the RF office doors; and
3) perhaps set up an e-mail account or bspace site where people could send their ideas.

The contest could be short - perhaps advertise for a week or two at the most, and then the MA team can come up with designs based on people's ideas. The contest should probably ask the name, unit of residence, and contact info, and perhaps give people some specs to follow.

Hi Anne Marie,

I just need to iron out some details with you:

-What size should the poster be?
-Will there be any incentive other than implementation?
-What restrictions do you want? (e.g. include 'Resident Faculty Program' text, black and white, size restrictions, landscape/portrait, etc.) Those are just some possible ideas of restrictions
-Should there be some kind of legal disclaimer, like all designs become ASC property?
-When will the contest start/end?

Also, I have created an email for submissions: ResFacContest@gmail.com; password: georgeduncan

Hi Anne Marie,

This is the most recent draft that I have come up with:

There is also a poster, but that looks pretty much exactly the same, so I didn't upload it.

I think we just need to figure out implementation and deadline. Also, if you have received my email about possibly updating the Res Fac webpage, that would have to be done also. Let me know what you think!

Hi Wendy,
The flyer is fantastic. I had forgotten to check with the RF about their willingness to have dinner with the winner and a friend as the prize, so I just e-mailed them this morning to confirm. Perhaps we should push back the contest date by a week and have the deadline be the 27th instead of the 20th, to give us time to hear back from them about the prize.

The RF web page is up-to-date, so all is fine on that front.

Hi Anne Marie,

The new deadline is fine. The 20th was mostly there as a filler date anyways. Should I change the date and send you the final version after the the RF either agree or disagree to dinner or do you have any suggestions for changes?

Anne Marie Richard replied on October 13, 2008 Permalink [reply]

I really don't have any changes to suggest b/c it looks great as is. So let's hold off until I hear back from the RF and then we can put it out there.

Thanks for being patient.

The contest winner will win a ticket to a private reception with film director and actor Clint Eastwood on January 23rd, 2009. This is a private reception held by the Center for Japanese Studies.

Next steps:
1) Please print the poster as soon as possible and post in Units 1 and 2.
2) Please also have MAs make presentations to the Unit 1 and Unit 2 hall staff (they meet on Tuesday nights) to spread the word about the contest (perhaps bring some small copies of the poster as a handout). They should contact the RDs directly to request a few minutes' time on the meeting agenda to make the announcement. When making the announcement, encourage RAs to tell their residents about it and submit a design.
3) Please have Monica e-mail an announcement about the contest to the all-AS staff listserve as well, to encourage our own staff to apply.
4) I hope each and every one of the MAs submits a design as well. There is no conflict of interest because the Resident Faculty will choose the winner(s).

As far as deadlines, please get the contest posted and announced ASAP and have the deadline for submissions be Friday, Dec. 5. The RFs and I are meeting on the 11th and will choose the winner then.

Will you please either e-mail me the contest poster or upload it to the Marketing folder on the share?

Thanks!

Hi Anne Marie,

I actually don't know how plausible step 2 would be. Considering how our MAs will have our last official meeting this Sunday since we're not meeting the Wednesday before Thanksgiving break and we're wrapping things up before finals start. Also, I'm not sure if we will be able to set up a meeting to go to one of the RA meetings.

I recommend actually having George and Duncan inform their RAs to spread the words directly. I know that APCs have all their unit residents' emails, so emailing residents regarding this contest is another consideration.

Anne Marie Richard replied on November 19, 2008 Permalink [reply]

OK, then please write up a short blurb to include in an e-mail and send it to Emmanuel Lopez and Monica to send to their unit residents, and to the all-staff list of Academic Services. CC me on the email and I will ask the RDs and Resident Faculty if they can make an announcement at the next meeting. I will need the poster so I can print a couple of smaller-scale flyers too.

Hi Anne Marie,

The New Version is uploaded here: O:\APC\Marketing\AS MARKETING 2008-09\FINAL PDFs & JPEGs\Fall 2008\Resident Faculty

The file Name is "Res Fac Contest NEW_WC.pdf"

Anne Marie Richard replied on November 24, 2008 Permalink [reply]

Thanks! Did the posters get printed and posted in U1 and U2?

AMR

Wendy Chu replied on November 24, 2008 Permalink [reply]

They have not yet been printed. Who should I contact about getting that done?

Anne Marie Richard replied on November 24, 2008 Permalink [reply]

Contact Monica, and please do it ASAP. She can send the files to copy central via email and they'll print them quickly.
