Associate
Editors: 2006-2007

History majors of any year may apply
for this position. One must be proficient in grammar, sentence structure
and diction. One also must have an understanding of what constitutes an
intriguing and well-written research paper, and have an interest in history and
appreciation for uniqueness.
The Associate Editor meets with
other Associate Editors and the Editors-in-Chief for paper distribution.
At this meeting each Associate Editor receives 3-5 research papers. They
must read them in about a week, and then email the Editors-in-Chief grades and
comments for each paper. The Editors-in-Chief will then decide with the
Associate Editor which paper is most suitable for publishing, and then the
Associate Editor will have 2-3 weeks to edit the paper, meet with the author,
and have the author email the final paper to the Editors-in-Chief for final publication.
Note: Not every Associate Editor has a paper that is chosen for publication, and likewise if an editor has more than one paper chosen,
the Editors-in-Chief will decide to distribute the extra papers to other Associate Editors.
Steve Frances
Year: Fourth
Minor: Public Policy
Steve is interested in American Reconstruction, American law and public policy, African American history, and the ancient Roman Republic (he needed Roman history to mix it up). Steve is undecided between pursuing a career in law or public policy after college. He would really like to find a way to competitively utilize his impressive repertoire of professional basketball trivia.
Ivy Ngo
Year: Second
Double Major: Possibly PEIS
Ivy's interest in history lies in the Cold War (emphasis Vietnam) and post WWII Political Economy. One day, she will knit a sweater that fits, and taste every cheese known
to mankind's exquisite palate (except Swiss). She likes to play ping pong.
Scott Juster
Year: Fifth
Minor: Conservation and Resource Studies
Scott's historical interests include the history of social classes, the United
States during the nineteenth century, and Europe during the twentieth century.
Scott plans to continue studying history after his undergraduate education.
He hopes to someday be a professor and model himself after his idol, Indiana
Jones, so that he can have his students' adoration by day and kill Nazis with
Biblical relics by night.
Christine Kwak
Year: Fourth
Minor: Global Poverty
Christine's avorite Interests in History are Middle Eastern history and African History, especially the effects of colonialism. She also loves stories and is always curious to know why/how things came to be the way they are today. She think history is fascinating because it helps you learn and understand a lot about people, the world, and yourself.
Olivia Luna
Year: Fifth
Double Major: Anthropology
Olivia studies Japanese history and archaeology. She's also interested in
WWI/WWII history, hunter-gatherer archaeology, US legal and constitutional
history and in the intersection between pop culture and history.
She is a hopeless workaholic who probably spends more time at the library
in an average week than most students, but with the added benefit of being
paid to be there. In times of procrastination she turns to comic books and
video games for nourishment; not the healthiest diet, but it definitely
tastes better than essays and midterms.
Stephanie Kroll
Year: Fourth
Double Major: Political Science
Stephanie is interested in American Political History (which is why she picked up the political science major... only to realize that it is sub par to history)
Sarah Stoller
Year: Second
Sarah is particularly interested in Ancient Chinese history, the development
and spread of religious movements, and the United States in the 20th
Century, but, really, who is she kidding? She loves it all. Besides spending her
time joining geek-chic facebook groups like "sexy history buffs of
America," she loves to plan trips, and when she can actually afford to, go on
them.
Katlyn Carter
Year: Third
Katlyn plans to focus on revolutionary movements. She loves the French
Revolution-- of 1789 of course-- the American Revolution and the
Soviet revolution. She has been fascinated with French history since she
was little as I went to an imersion school where I first learned to
speak French. She also loves 20th century U.S.
history, and is especially interested in foreign policy and political
history more generally.
She spent the summer working as an undergraduate research assistant for
a history professor and am planning to travel to Paris this spring,
either to study or to work. She hopes to study history in graduate school
someday and otherwise would like to work as a print journalist.
Nick Herron
Year: Fifth
Nick is a 5th year super senior with a major in history. His
focus is Latin America with a particular interest in Nicaragua, the
subject of his undergraduate thesis. Upon graduation he plans to do
three things: 1) grow a beard in honor of Latin American
revolutionaries; 2) read fiction--lots of it; and 3) start the
"journey".
Patricia Davitt
Year: Third
Double Major: Mass Communications
Tricia’s historical interests consist mainly of anything having to do with Ancient Rome, specifically the Roman Republic, and Europe during the World Wars. Her pet pug is even named after Winston Churchill (the resemblance is uncanny!). She also enjoys the history of baseball, especially anything related to the Chicago Cubs or the New York Yankees.
Michael Lu
Year: Third
Double Major: Philosophy
Michael's greatest fascination in history resides in the realm of Early Modern
European History. More specifically, his interests in
the Early Modern European epoch focus especially on one event, the French
Revolution.
In his spare time, he likes to access Wikipedia online and just immerse
himself for hours in reading articles about whatever subjects are
unfamiliar to him. He honestly feels that the website is capable of expanding
his base of knowledge, even if all he takes from it are the most rudimentary
facts (since professional scholars have deemed it "unreliable"). Besides,
it is free to use.
