WE NEED VOLUNTEERS! Berkeley Worms was founded in 1993 with seed funds from the Alameda County Waste Management Authority. It served the Berkeley student community and composted about 200 of tons of food waste each year from UC-Berkeley. On July 1. 2005 Berkeley Worms reorganized into two separate non-profit organizations: Bay Worms and Berkeley Worms Bay Worms is located
at Alameda Point and operates from the community garden at
Alameda Point Collaborative. (Check: www.bayworms.org)

community of Alameda using vermicomposting technology. Our herd
of red worms (Eisenia foetida) turns vegetable
matter we collect into one of the best organic fertilizers
around: worm castings. We sell castings and compost on site, as
well we take phone orders. By selling our worm castings, compost and other products, we can at the same time promote home composting and generate a steady income to fund our organics recycling program. As we expand and become
financially self-sustaining, we hope to be a model for small
institutions and municipalities, demonstrating a cost-effective
method for recycling organic food
waste.
