The Cal Cooking Club works together with Bay Area food businesses to bring the culinary arts and slow food movement to Berkeley students and faculty as well as the greater Bay Area community members.
Events

You can also purchase honey, honey soap, tiffins, and insulated lunchbags at bulk prices! We're not here to make a profit- we're here to bring you good food and quality products at college student prices :D We're also right next to The Local Produce Stand where you can pick up farmers' market produce at bulk prices.
Home Clinics take advantage of our club's extraordinary ethnic diversity and provide more talented members the opportunity to share a family recipe or special skill. Home clinics are usually held at Kitchen on Fire or North Westminster House and cost five to ten dollars.
Restaurant Clinics are held at notable local destinations. Each restaurant clinic brings our members into restaurant kitchens where they learn hands-on with the head chef. For only ten to twenty dollars, members prepare several dishes and devour it soonafter.
The Dining Committee eats (and drinks) at local restaurants. We eat, discuss, review, and socialize over food! This committee is ideal for people who want to take advantage of the many great local restaurants, are interested in exploring new cuisines, or just love to eat good food!
Field Trips bring our members into artisan kitchens, noted bakeries, chocolate factories, local biodynamic farms, and more!

What I Do: I offer advice to the current officers and enjoy club events as a lifetime member.
Favorite Foods: I think prosciutto crudo ham is the greatest of foods. I don't care if it's from Parma or San Daniele, or even the United States. I don't like it with melon, and don't start with me on that. Just the ham, please. But god. Sushi. Go to Zushi Puzzle in San Francisco and sit at the bar and kindly request of the enormous man that he give you whatever is freshest that day, and that you don't care what kind of fish that means. And you won't. Do this with someone you care deeply for.

In fact, photography will be my career someday, if the whole Professor of Photography thing doesn't work out. I like making movies too, and teaching Berkeley students how to become artists. Former Secretary: Jourdan Janssen Year: Sophomore Major: Developmental Studies (Intended)
What I Do: I enjoy the Cal Cooking Club as a lifetime member.
Favorite foods: I cannot think of any food that I do not like, except for maybe emu. I am pretty adventurous when it comes to food and I will try anything at least once. When I cook, one of my all-time favorite recipes is the Barefoot Contessa's salmon with dijon mustard and soy sauce. So good! But if you have a sweet tooth, take the 1 down Telegraph and hop off at Bakesale Bettys's. Her scones and ginger snaps are unreal!
What I Do: I build relationships with restaurant, bakery, and factory chefs. With their permission, I bring the Cooking Club to their facilities, showing members what goes on behind closed kitchen doors.
Favorite Foods: Dessert first! Especially if it involves chocolate or something creamy. Otherwise, if it's new and/or exotic, I'll try it! But a simple "meal" of artisan bread with a good extra virgin olive oil and a sprinkling of salt and fresh ground pepper will always do.
Interests: Grab life by the horns! More realistically: when relaxing doesn't get too addictive, I love traveling, playing, listening to, and sharing good music, exploring the outdoors (swimming, hiking, snowboarding, one day- skydiving), the arts, or anything that defines a culture (this includes food!), reminiscing about good times, and creating unforgettable memories.
Founders
First President: Karen Rogers Major: International Business and French
What I Do: I enjoy watching the Cal Cooking Club grow and participating as a lifetime member
Favorite Foods: What I like most are vegetables. Any dish with fresh greens (or reds or yellows and oranges) I am guaranteed to like. My favorite Berkeley dishes are the vegetarian sandwich (just say #2) at Semifreddi's bakery on Claremont Ave. and the Eggplant and Tofu dish at Thai Basil in the Asian Ghetto. Mmmm.
Interests: Cooking isn't the only thing I enjoy! I also love traveling - especially to places where I can speak Spanish or work on my French. I also spend a lot of my time at the piano as well as on the road - running. One of my favorite things to do, however, is art. Sculpture is my favorite division - I can spend hours playing with clay.
What I Do: I enjoy participating in the Cal Cooking Club as a lifetime member.
Favorite Foods: If I have to choose, I suppose I'll go with fresh fruit and vegetables. I love pretty much all of it--pomegranites, figs, nectarines, olallaberries, corn, squash, eggplants, green beans... I could go on and on. Growing up right next to the Central Valley (in the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas) has spoiled me for life.
Interests: I love reading, especially literature and poetry, although I'll try almost anything. Some of my favorite books include A River Sutra, War and Peace, The Harafish, the Bible, The Brothers Karamazov, Brave New World and His Dark Materials trilogy. I also like to travel and to learn other languages; right now I am studying Latin and French. I'm majoring in Comparative Literature at Berkeley.
History
Upon arriving at Cal in 2005, Karen Rogers was eager to join the culinary arts community. She was shocked, however, to discover that the campus did not even have a cooking club. Soonafter, she initiated an informal culinary group in the Unit 2 dorms that hosted themed dinners for the residents, seasonal cookie exchanges, and other culinary events like bake sales.
The following semester, Karen Rogers, Adam Breich, and Hana Metzger launched the club campus-wide. The Cal Cooking Club's first meeting was a huge success. With over 70 people in attendance, there weren't enough chairs to seat everyone. Today, it's not unusual to see 500 audience members at our general meetings.
The Cooking Club is a 501(c)(3) organization under the ASUC at U.C. Berkeley.
