[7/25/08] Dark Knight

Me and Erik haven't seen Zac, Kate, and Steve in a while so we finally all got together to watch Dark Knight. First we hit up CPK to fill our bellies and catch up with each other. Then we headed over to the theatre to go wait in line for Dark Knight. Surprising enough there was no line at all to see the movie even though the week before there were insane lines out the door an hour and half before the movie even started. I really enjoyed the movie and the Hong Kong scenes were cool because I could say I've been there in person =P.

[7/20/08] Being a Monkey

Alva was asking Erik if we wanted to go wall climbing with her at Planet Granite in Sunnyvale. We hadn't gone for a while so I was definitely interested in going. Before we could go me and Erik had to move all of his stuff he would need for a week out of his apartment and to another apartment up the street. His complex was re-piping all the units and needed people to vacate their apartments for a week.

Wall climbing was a lot of fun. I can do 5.8s pretty easily and Erik says I look like a monkey when I'm climbing the wall, because I skip steps and kinda swing around. I'll have to get him to video tape me next time we go. When I'm up on the wall all I can really think of is go up as fast as possible to conserve energy. I don't mind reaching really high or jumping to get the next hand hold.

We went to Chez Sovan in Campbell for our first time eating Cambodian food. It was really good and very similar to Thai food. Every dish we got was extremely flavorful. We got the Catfish Amok ( definitely would recommend), Tofu Kuy Tiew Cha, and this beef stew with coconut milk.

[7/18/08] Dinner at Marcus' House

I haven't seen Marcus probably since the last Cal football game. Finally we had a night where me, Eunji, Lauren, and Marcus were free so we decided to go over to Marcus' and make dinner. He grilled perfect fillet mignon that were soo good. Eunji made a yummy salad with an orange vinaigrette dressing. Me and Erik had really great sweet potatoes from Aqui so the day before so I decided to make a sweet potato and regular potato mashup. I threw in some olive oil, lemon juice, sage, and salt. It turned out really good of course cuz Erik flavored it =D. Lauren brought more beer and bread. After dinner we stayed up drinking wine chatting and playing Rock Band. Fun times.

[7/9/08 - 7/15/08] Hanging out with Erik's family in Minnesota

We took the red eye flight to Minneapolis, which left at 12am Pacific time and got to Minnesota at 6am Central time. Needless to say we didn't get much sleep on the plane and had to take a nap once we got to Erik's parents' house. His little sister Kristina picked us up from the airport, which is crazy because last year she couldn't drive. Man the grow up soo fast hehe.

Erik loves to cook but usually doesn't have the time because he's soo busy with work. His family is always excited to try his new dishes. He wanted to go with a Spanish theme so we made 4 dishes. We cooked for about 3 and half hours straight. There was a gazpacho soup, stuffed green peppers, Spanish rice, and a dessert. I was mainly in charge of all the chopping while he was the visionary and taste tester. I don't mind the chopping and cleaning up, because I'm not that great with coming up with flavor combinations. His grandpa Ruben and wife Marie came over for dinner. There was a thunderstorm warning going off after dinner so they left to go back home and the rest of us all piled downstairs to the finished basement to watch the news and lighting. The rain all of a sudden started coming down in buckets and we could see some lighting and hear thunder off in the distance. The storm wasn't too bad and it gave the area some much needed rain. We watch Munich later on with his parents. I thought the movie was really interesting and definitely gave me a new perspective on the whole situation in Israel.

On Saturday morning we left around 10am to head to Madeline Island where James and Amy's wedding was held. Madeline Island is the northern point of Wisconsin on Lake Superior. It's about a 4 and half hour drive from the Twin Cities. It is the largest of the Apostle Islands and can be accessed through a ferry boat. The boat ride was about 30 minutes till we got to the island. The location of the wedding was switched to the other side of the island because winds were blowing about 35 mph at the original location.

Good thing they checked out the site and bought tons of bug spray. There were hundreds of flies at the new venue and they kept biting everyone. Even though we all sprayed tons of OFF they were still all on everyone's legs. The bride even had about 10 files on her dress. Ewww bugs. The ceremony was luckily short so we got out of there after 30 minutes.

The next morning we had brunch with the newly weds and explored the island a bit. We found this nice beach area and walked around searching for pretty rocks.

The rest of the time we mostly just hung out with his family and chilled in Burnsville. One day we spent 3 hours at the Zoo. The zoo was super nice and had tons and tons of animals I haven't seen anywhere else. We were 3 feet away from a grizzly bear too =D.
