Q? When is the next time you'll be having auditions?
A. Right now!! Send us an email, see below. We'll be auditioning all parts for the Fall semester (and beyond!)

Q? How do I join your mailing list?
A. Why, it's simple! To subscribe yourself to our lovely DeCadence Announcements list, send an email to majordomo@listlink.berkeley.edu with the following command in the body of the email:
subscribe decadence

Q? The next time you have auditions, how do I schedule one?
A. Send an email to auditions@decadence.berkeley.edu. Subscribe to our mailing list for news of auditions and concerts.

Q? What type of experience do I need?
A. While the experience of our members varies, you will need to have good intonation/pitch, be able to learn your part relatively quickly, and be able to carry your part in a group of other people singing different parts.

Q? What do I need to bring to the audition?
A. Just prepare a verse and a chorus of a song that shows off your voice well. It would be well worth picking a song ahead of time and practicing it to be sure you know the words and all that, and we'd prefer that you choose a song in the same genre of songs that we perform. See the "Songs" link for our current repertoire. We'd be especially happy if you could download, print, and fill out the pdf audition form or Word audition form.

Q? What does an audition entail?
A. First, we test your range. Then we do a blending exercise to see how well your voice blends with the rest of the group. Next we test your tonal memory, that is, we play a series of notes on the piano and have you sing them back to us. Then we kick back and listen to your solo. Finally, we test sight-reading and we have you learn part of a song. There may be more things we test, but this is the basic format.

Q? What kind of time commitment is involved?
A. You must be able to attend our rehearsals from 7:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays and our weekly Sather Gate performance, Wednesdays 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. If you're intending on auditioning, please keep your schedules open for those times. In addition to these, we have several performances throughout the year and a big concert at the end of each semester. While there is no rule about it, we do prefer auditionees be willing to make a year long committment.

Q? Does DeCadence demand the first-born child like the UC Men's Octet does?
A. No, unlike the Octet, we do not demand your first-born child.
