DeCadence was founded in 1992 by Mark Skandera, an amazing guy -- he's now a math professor!
We are a co-ed a cappella group, usually with 12 members, 6 men and 6 women, though this number has fluctuated throughout our history.
In the spring of 2001 we competed at the ICCA Quarter Finals in Berkeley where we won Best Arrangement for Angela Don's "Pop Nightmare. We went on tour in Southern California. Highlights included a casual evening performance with the SoCal Vocals and a stint at The Ugly Mug, a coffeeshop in Anaheim.
That fall, Angela Don took over as Director from Lisa Sindorf, leading us to new heights.
In March, 2003 we organized a joint concert with the very talented Claremont Shades along with Artists in Resonance and Noteworthy. Incidentally, our tour led us once again to Southern California where we were priveleged to sing with the Shades on their own turf.
The Fall of 2003 semester was our 10 year anniversary. And we didn't let it go unnoticed. Anniversary celebrations ensued, with special thanks to Mark Skandera.
In the Fall of 2002, we had our final concert with The UC Davis Liquid Hotplates.
Come Spring 2003, Ryan Clark directed. We got our act together and recorded our first CD, "A Zebra Heard." For some reason or another, we all dressed up as cartoon characters for our Spring Concert. We shared the stage with BOHiCA, a group composed of DeCadence alumni.
