Mathporn

Mathporn is a movie made entirely out of fractals, inspired by some projects Luke was making for a class at that time. When I converted one of those images into a sound, the effect was striking enough that we decided to make a full movie and enter it in the Stanford Film Festival. Since then, we have arranged several showings.

Here are some mp3's of sounds from the movie (~1 MB each):

• The sound that started it all, based on the logistic growth equation
• A sound based on the Sierpinski triangle - the frequencies involved trace out the triangle in Fourier space
• A purely fractal sound. This soundwave is itself a fractal - listen for the self-similarity. (I cut this directly from the movie, so I need to trim some excess sound out.)
