Everyone has accidents. I tend to have more than others, and a lot of them require doctors or dentists visits and usually at terrible times. Like on Christmas or the last time it was on Father's day. Last year on Father's day I got hit and I needed to go to the dentist. Of course, our dentist was vacationing with his kids and was unable to help me, so we had to try to find someone else, and fast. We called family and friends and even neighbors who called their family and friends. It took hours to find someone who was open (or would open) to see me and fix my smile (thankfully we finally did or I would look terrible). Those few hours at my house were hell though. I was crying in pain, my dad and sister spent the whole time on the phone frustrated from one call to another. Looking back on it, we laugh about it but it would have been convenient if there was an easy way to find someone in an emergency situation. Well apparently there's a website that could've helped us out.
A few days ago I found a website for the New York area that does just that. It is called ZocDoc and you can find a New York dentist (or Manhattan dentists or Queens, wherever you may need) by just typing it in. The website brings up all of the dentists in the area that you put in and you can choose those that accept your insurance plan, like Aetna or MetLife insurance, and even search by appointment dates or what kind of procedure you need done. So if you are having an emergency and need to find a Brooklyn dentist, you can type in "Brooklyn" under location and it will tell you all of the dentists that have open appointments that day and what insurance providers that they accept.
This website, had I known about it when I got hit (and if it applied to my area) would have been a Godsend. It would have saved us hours of frustration and me a lot of pain. I would suggest that anyone that can, take advantage of this because it is a great service to have even if you aren't having an emergency. You can just schedule your regular appointments or use this to find a dentist if you are moving or are new to the area. It truly is a timesaver.
FINDING GIFTS FOR HIM
This is my favorite time of year. I love to shop around for presents and not only find the best present, but also the best deal. These days you can honestly find some of the best gifts really cheap, and shopping around to find the very best deals does really pay off. I can't tell you all the money I have saved already. The one thing that I find extremely difficult is buying for the men in my life. Finding just the right gifts for him, can be touch sometimes, especially if you are shopping for a man that doesn't have a particular sport that he is into, that can make it really difficult to land the perfect gift.
Here are some of the places that I look for gifts for men, that always seem to work out well. First, check your local auto store. Men love their cars and love to take care of them, so sometimes you can get a few really good gift ideas when you go into these places. You can find inexpensive gifts like heat up travel coffee mugs, auto cleaning kits, and even emergency road kits. I also came across some very neat heat up ice scrapers that clean through the ice on your windshield in seconds. These are really great for a commuter. If you can't find anything in the auto parts store, then check out some of your local stores, for the items that they carry just for gifts for the holiday season. A lot of time they will have executive gifts like pens and little gadgets that sit on a desk and can be played with. Men are big boys, so if they have a game system, you can always get them the newest games available on that system. And when all else fails you can always pick up a movie on DVD, you know some guy flick that has a lot of action in it. Anything with Arnie is really good.
Choosing a gift for those special men in your life doesn't have to be difficult, but knowing where to look to get ideas is half the battle. So shop wisely, and don't forget to look for the deals, they are out there and remember clearance items make great gifts for a lot less.
A PERSIAN WOOL RUG FOR MOM
I just found the most incredible deal on Persian Carpets, and even better yet, they were online. This year, I have been doing most of my shopping online because I find that it is the best way to get a good deal. I can check out all the stores and their competitors to get the most awesome deals on the gifts I need for all of my family and friends. I didn't really think that I was going to find a deal on rugs though and when I saw that my mother had a Persian Wool Rug on her Christmas list, I really thought that was going to be expensive, and a cheap knock off won't do for mom, so I knew that it had to be an authentic Persian rug, not just any rug that looked like it was real. When I started looking at them, I found some really great rugs, but the prices were too high, so like I have done with everything else this Christmas, I started shopping around and found a place that had a great deal and they would ship it right to her, which is really good, because this way I only have to pay for the shipping once.
Mom has been working really hard to redecorate her new apartment and make it feel more like home. See, just about a year ago she decided to give up her house and move into an apartment, and since then she has been a redecorating fanatic. She wants it to feel like home, so she started by painting, pulling up the carpeting and redoing the hard wood floors that had been hidden for years and years. I took a lot of work, but it is finally starting to come together, and she even got a great deal on some new furniture, which honestly makes the whole place seem just a little more like a home. Now since winter is starting to set in, and it is getting colder, she is feeling that she wished as if she had some carpeting to make the place feel a little bit warmer and more homey. And I was able to find a Persian carpet that was not only the right size, but the right colors to accent the room. I know that she will be happy with this purchase, and she will never believe the incredible price I got on this rug. I won't tell.

MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTION CAREER MADE EASY
While attending nursing school minnesota, I became frustrated that I could not make enough money to keep myself afloat throughout my schooling. I heard about getting an online medical transcription degree, but I didn't really know how to go about it. A friend of mine had already done this, and she said that her background in medical terminology, made it really simple to get through the program quickly. She said that she reduced her course load slightly and began to do the online degree program at night and on the weekends and that it was pretty simple to get through the program. Now she says that she can do medical transcription around her regular class schedule and that she can adjust the amount of work that she does based on what her school load is for the week. She said that on breaks she tries to work a lot to save some money, and this has enabled her to stop taking out so many student loans for living expenses. She says that she loves medical transcription and that it is really easy, and pays her really well. She said that she makes at least twice as much pay for the same amount of hours that she used to work part time as a waitress.
Well, she gave me all the information and I looked into it. It was quite inexpensive and the person I spoke with said that it would be really easy for me to do, especially since I already had a nursing background and for most people the terms were half the battle. I signed up and am on my way to taking the medical transcription course online and getting my degree. She said that once I complete the program they will even help set me up with someone who needs my service and get me placement in the field. This is really good news for me because I really don't know where I would look to find these types of jobs. Now I have all the tools that I need to make some extra money while I am in school, with the flexibility to allow me to fit in the other aspects of my life and that is just wonderful!

I took computer science my sophomore year to fill an elective. To be honest, besides checking my email, my bank statements, face book and doing homework I really am technologically retarded. There is not much that I can do with a computer and to be honest, unless it is something that I really do need to do, I don't really plan on learning how. Although I got an A in computer science (it was a 100 level class that I am pretty sure every student at my university has taken that class as a blow off class) I really did struggle with it. While most of my classmates slept in and blew off lecture (it was my only ever 8 a.m. class) I trucked in rain or snow and diligently took notes. Lab was the hardest part for me and I think that if my teacher wasn't so nice I might have failed. She overlooked a lot of the mistakes I made and I usually got an A on lab or she would let us use notes (yay for going to class). Something I did learn about though (most of it didn't stick in my mind at all) was dedicated server hosting. This is a type of server where the client leases an entire server not shared with anyone else and is much more flexible then shared hosting. Yikes. That is a lot of information that even I (with my full semester of computer science 100 ha can't understand). Thankfully they go into further detail on the website and break it down and explain it for those who may not understand it as well as the computer geeks out there (sometimes I wish I was one of those computer geeks).
For now though, I am going to stick to my bio-chemistry, pre-pharmacy major and only do what I need to on the computer, but in the future this website may be something of interest to me and maybe someday I will understand it all.
Car for a cause
When I turned 16 I got a brand new jeep liberty and it took me about 3 weeks to total it and need a new one. After that I got a blazer and got into another accident. So instead of rewarding my bad driving again my dad made me drive this red Pontiac grand prix that at the time, was in great condition. The deal was that if I could go 6 months without a ticket or an accident I could get a new car. Well 4 months passed and I got a speeding ticket and then another 3 months passed and I got into a car accident and dented the door in the little red car. Well this pattern continued until what I now call “baby red” was broken in and I had gotten so used to her that I didn't even want a new car. So although I went 6 months (almost exactly 6 months and then got another ticket) with a clean record and no accidents, I decided that I was used to baby red and couldn't give her up, even for a flashy new car. Then I went off to college and I took red with me. Last year however was when I sadly learned about goodwill car donations. I was driving back to school and baby red's tire popped and I didn't have time to get over on the highway so a truck hit the car. Then while being towed, red fell off the truck and got mangled. I seriously cried for days and days. So I got back to school and a few hours later I saw baby red parked (I'm not sure if I would call it parked, more like crumpled) in my parking spot. So my dad told me he saw this ad about donating your car to different causes. Even though I was heartbroken to see baby red being towed away (I even took pictures) I felt good that she (well her parts) was going to a good cause. It is nice to know that people have come up with an organization that can do that. Taking beaten up cars and getting money for causes like children's cancer or child abuse or a number of other causes makes the wreck seem like nothing at all. I was so sad to see my car mangled, but when I thought about how it could really help someone out it put it in to perspective how good I really do have it compared to some people.
DEBT COUNSELING...THE ANSWER TO MY PRAYERS
Watching the bills pile up was getting really depressing. I knew I needed to do something to get out of my own private hell, but I really didn't know where to turn. Most people didn't even know that I was having financial difficulties, I think that I hid it pretty well, but my head was constantly filled with worry and guilt over not answering my phone and not paying my bills. I couldn't afford it. I had been trying to get a better job, but let's face it the state of the economy was not on my side. I stayed at work a few extra hours a day, trying to pick up some over time and doing everything I could to keep my head above water. I could have probably picked up the phone and called someone in my family to ask for some money, but I couldn't do it because my debt had gone well above any amount I would ask someone to borrow, and I knew that if I did, I probably couldn't pay it back anyway. I couldn't sleep at night because as soon as my head hit the pillow I felt like I couldn't breathe. Thoughts would spiral around in my head of the money I owed and on a few occasions I actually got physically ill thinking about it. One day, I finally confided in a friend of mine about how I had gotten myself in over my head with credit cards and loans, and that I really couldn't take the stress of it anymore. I started to cry and once I started I felt like I couldn't stop. She told me that I should seriously consider Debt Counseling. She said that with a debt counselor, I could sit down and work out a plan of repayment and that they could help me balance my expenses and find ways to cut back so that I could afford to pay my bills. She said they would advise me as to what my best path was and they could help me deal with my creditors to work out some sort of repayment schedule. Well, honestly I ran home to call a debt counselor and met with them the very next day. It feels good to finally be able to take some action towards clearing up my debt and getting my life back on track. I really thought the stress of it all was going to kill me, but now there is hope for a brighter tomorrow.
