losing a job

Let's say you or someone you know just lost your job? You already know that cash will be tight, and what about paying for your individual health insurance? That can't be easy, when you are living off unemployment and find yourself without a savings, right? Well, there are some serious options that you need to know about if you or someone you know finds themselves in this predicament. There is such a thing as short term health insurance which is specifically designed to cover you if you find yourself in such a situation. It is kind of like cobra, you know the extension of your health insurance benefits that by law your former employer must offer you, the only problem is that with cobra the insurance can actually be more expensive than buying your own policy independently, and that is because when you are going through your company they subsidize the premiums, but when you pay for the same insurance through vobra it can be much more expensive. Now many people recommend checking online for short term health insurance quotes and this is a very good way to find some reasonable insurance. I have tried it and you would be really surprised how much money you can save over those cobra payments, it is really astounding. You can also research your insurance by state, like if you live in Texas, then you can search under Texas health insurance or in New York, than New York health insurance. What you will find is that the laws vary from state to state, but also there may be state offered alternatives for your current situation, so you will want to be sure to look into these. Lastly, if you are an individual then I recommend doing some research under individual health insurance, but if you have kids then you may want to look into family health insurance options. You may just find that you can find more reasonable rates per person if you can find an all inclusive family plan, especially if you have a large family, and here too there may be some other options available to you.

I realize that it is very easy to get depressed when you have experienced a lay off, however taking care of your health insurance needs is a very important matter, and should be addressed immediately. Spending even one day without health insurance is one day too many, I assure you.
