TOP TEN REASONS TO JOIN
THE BOALT HALL FEDERALIST SOCIETY
FOR LAW AND PUBLIC POLICY STUDIES

  1. IT'S FUN!
Whether it's our BBQ with law students from other Bay Area schools, debates, outlines, job contacts, or office facilities, the Federalist Society is a fun alternative to the usual law school routine.

  2. We have a CUTE AND CUDDLY MASCOT.

  3. Federalist Society events WILL BROADEN OUR MIND.
There is no better path to a poor legal education and narrow mind than to deprive yourself of considering conservative and libertarian viewpoints on legal issues. Federalist Society events will allow you to explore -- and challenge -- conservative and libertarian views on policy and legal matters.

  4. OUR DEBATES are timely and down right exciting.
Each semester we host several debates between nationally-renowned legal scholars, including Boalt faculty. We are the only organization at Boalt that hosts debates rather than presenting only one-sided discussions.

  5. OUR LUNCHTIME SPEAKERS SERIES keeps you well-fed and educated.
We regularly host guest speakers to lead us in informal discussions on legal and public policy issues. Topics have included splitting the 9th Circuit, permanently abolishing the State Bar, alternatives to law-making by initiative, originalist interpretation of the U.S. Constitution, the ineffectiveness of gun control laws, school vouchers, and the over-federalization of crimes, inter alia.

  6. We host a ONE-OF-A-KIND WORKSHOP FOR 1-Ls, "Tips to the Good Life at Boalt."
Orientation doesn't give 1-L's an adequate opportunity to hear from 2- and 3Ls on law school life. Early each fall semester, we host an informal workshop led by 2- and 3L members on tips to law school fun and success, however defined.

  7. JOBS, JOBS, JOBS.
The Federalist Society -- not Career Services -- receives job notices from Federalist alums, including judges. We also are starting a collection of fellowship and clerkship information, and contacts at non-profit legal organizations interested in employing Federalist Society students.

  8. OUTLINE BANK
A plethora of outlines is available to members in paper and on disk.

  9. The Society has LEADERSHIP POSITIONS AVAILABLE.
Committee positions are available – 1-Ls included.

WHO SHOULD JOIN?

Anyone who wants to join, including students who are interested in exploring legal and public policy issues through debates, speaking events, and informal discussion. Students who consider themselves conservatives or libertarians, and those totally unfamiliar with such viewpoints, are particularly welcome.
