Examples of Advertisements...
Here are a few visual representations of various forms of Internet advertising:

The first example is a side-bar, which is a version of a banner advertisement. This is usually sponsored by the host website (in this example, Yahoo.com's branch of Geocities) and is used to provide the surfer with various links that may be useful to them. Often times, the sponsored links change based on what the surfer seems to be interested in. Note: these are usually on the left or right-hand side of the screen; the website text generally resides on the opposing side.

SPONSORED LINKS

The next example is a true banner advertisement. Such advertisements usually span the top of a web page and are used to lure the surfer into clicking on them. Once the link has been clicked on, the advertiser has the surfer's attention and has thus successfully completed their mission.

Another common example is a pop-up advertisement. Pop-up advertisements usually occur when you load a specific website. Upon loading the website, the host automatically directs you to an additional site that shows up on your screen in a new browser window. The purpose is to catch the surfer's attention by forcing them to either read the advertisement or close the new window. Click on the following link for an example:
