• Blackout Battles
Posted on June 3rd, 2007 in Latest Announcements |
Since spring 2005, we have held bi-annual energy competitions in campus residence halls. These competitions, which we call Blackout Battles, reach over 5,000 students and have yielded an average energy savings of 7.95% in the targeted residence halls. We have organized five Blackout Battles installments (ranging from one to two months) over the past three academic years. Last year our fall competition yielded an average energy savings of 11.29% and our spring competition had an 11.67% energy reduction in the targeted residence halls compared to the set baseline level!
We are organizing two more Blackout Battles competitions during the 2007-2008 academic year. Both competitions will be between Unit 1, Unit 2, Unit 3, and Unit 4 (Foothill, Bowles, and Stern). The hall with the highest percentage decrease in electric usage compared to the usage of the past three years will be declared the winner and receive an ice cream party. The fall competition is from October 1st to December 1st and the spring competition will be from February 1st to March 1st.
