• CFL Exchange
Posted on June 3rd, 2007 in Latest Announcements |
The light bulb exchange involves an exchange of students incandescent light bulbs for 13-watt compact florescent bulbs, which use roughly 25% of the energy that incandescents consume. In the previous school year (2005-2007), Green Campus and the Residential Sustainability Education Coordinators (RSECs) collaborated to ensure the success of the light bulb exchange. The purchase of the 1,500 Compact Florescent Lamps (CFLs) was approved and financed by the housing department for the academic year of 2006-2007. For the academic year of 2008-2009, the housing department recieved free CFLs from Pacific Gas & Electric as part of their “Million Bulb Giveaway” last year and will be exchanging these CFLs for the upcoming 08-09 year.
Project goals:
- Reduces the amount of energy usage for students with desk lamps by providing energy efficient CFLs.
- Educates students on the use of energy efficient lighting.
- Students living in the residence halls do not monitor their energy usage because they do not pay a utility bill.
