Welcome to the Web site of the San Francisco Young Playwrights Foundation, home of the San Francisco Young Playwrights Festival.


Have you ever thought of writing a play? Do you have a play that you want to see performed on stage rather than gathering dust in your closet? Submit your play to be a part of the 2nd Annual San Francisco Young Playwrights Festival and see your work produced before all of San Francisco!

The San Francisco Young Playwrights Festival is open to all high school students living in San Francisco. Original scripts only. No translations or adaptations. Subject and style are up to you. Students may submit as many plays as they wish. Collaborations and group plays will be accepted, provided that all co-writers meet eligibility requirements; co-writers will share awards. To enter, you must:

• Attend high school
• Live in the city of San Francisco

On the title page of each play, you must include:

• Name
• Address
• Phone number
• E-mail
• Date of birth
• School name
• If a particular teacher or organization encouraged you to enter, please specify.

To submit play(s), you must do one of the following:

• Mail the play(s) to San Francisco Young Playwrights Foundation, P.O. Box 210336, S.F., CA 94121
• E-mail the play(s) in .doc or .pdf format to

Plays must be under 30 minutes. Scripts must be typed or clearly written in standard play format; all pages must be numbered. Scripts will not be returned; do NOT send originals. Entries must be e-mailed/ postmarked no later than December 15, 2006. Winning playwrights will be notified January 2007.


The San Francisco Young Playwrights Foundation is an organization committed to developing and producing plays by young playwrights. The San Francisco Young Playwrights Festival is the first of its kind in the City, giving high school students all over San Francisco equal opportunity to see their work developed and produced.

The San Francisco Young Playwrights Foundation is always on the lookout for talented, passionate people to help bring to life plays by San Francisco's next generation of playwrights. If you are interested in joining the organization, we have exciting, challenging positions for people of all skill levels. We welcome directors, mentors, and other theater artists to join the team.
