About HMAP:

The Health and Medical Apprenticeship Program (HMAP) was created in 1984 by four U.C. Berkeley undergraduates with the goal of introducing Berkeley students to issues and ethical dilemmas related to the fields of health and medicine. The results of their efforts are three subprograms: the class Public Health 116 (formerly IDS 130), the Field Study Internship (FSI), and the Health Service Internship (HSI). HMAP is entirely run by five coordinators and fifty teaching assistants, all of whom are volunteer undergraduate UC Berkeley students. It continues to expose over 1,000 students every year to a broad spectrum of experiences in health and medicine, as well as emphasizes participatory learning. HMAP is sponsored by the School of Public Health and is an ASUC Student-Initiated Service Group.
