Public Health
116 Public Health 116 introduces students to
issues and perspectives related to health and medicine. A two-unit,
pass/not pass U.C. Berkeley seminar, the class is a weekly two-hour
lecture (Monday 4-6pm) as well as an optional one-hour discussion. Each
week guest lecturers speak about the week’s topic, which can include a
variety of topics such as public health, genetics, chronic illnesses,
environmental health, and health care economics. Speakers share
their first-hand experiences in their fields, discuss current issues,
debate ethical dilemmas, pose and answer questions, and more.
Discussion Section Information: PH 116 offers students the opportunity to take an optional one-unit pass/not pass discussion section. Since section has traditionally been integrated with the PH 116 lecture, we highly encourage students to take the discussion section to accompany the course. During the weekly discussion sections, students delve deeper into the issues, not only exploring and perhaps questioning their own thoughts and beliefs, but also learning from the experiences and perspectives of their fellow students. This is where students can benefit most from the course, and it is for this reason that we recommend students sign up for discussion section. *Please note that discussion is required if you are interested in participating in the Field Study Internship (FSI) or in becoming a TA for PH 116.* Applications to be a TA for Spring 2010 are now up. You can find the application here. |
